Rhinosinusitis is clinically divided into acute, subacute and chronic rhinosinusitis depending on the duration of an inflammation of the mucous membrane that covers the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. The bacterial infection and closure of natural ostium are important roles of the occurrence of rhinosinusitis. Hypoxic inducible factors(HIFs) are induced by hypoxia. In hypoxic environments, the function of HIFs coordinates the appropriate adaptation of vascular homeostasis through the activation of dozens of target genes, including vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF). In this study, mice were exposed to hypoxia and compared with control groups. The aim of this study was to determine whether expression of HTF-1α increases and whether sinusitis is exacerbated, and to determine the importance of oxygen supply in the treatment of sinusitis by administering oxygen before induction of hypoxia.
