Epidural analgesia is frequently used for the management of labor pain in parturients. The neurologic complications of epidural analgesia are rare, but they are catastrophic when they occur. We report here on a case of bilateral femoral neuropathy in a vaginal delivery patient with epidural analgesia. The patient complained of weakness of both thighs and numbness around both knees. Neurologic examination and electromyographic study revealed that they occurred due to the delivery itself. The patient had not fully recovered at eight weeks after delivery. The declining incidence of postpartum femoral neuropathy may reflect a reduced duration of labor in accordance with modern obstetric practice, and particularly the more frequent use of Caesarean delivery. The exact etiology of postpartum femoral neuropathy is unknown, and the possible factors are direct compression of nerves that are proximal within the pelvis by either the fetal head or birthing instruments, or this malady is the result of pressure induced ischemia at the level of the inguinal ligament when the pregnant woman is in the lithotomy position. 본 연구는 전문적이면서 정확한 의료수어통역이 미흡한 상황에서 농인의 의료 서비스 접근성을 원활하게 하는 의료 환경의 수어통역 콘텐츠를 개발하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 문헌고찰, 농인 대상 개별 면접, 수어통역사 및 수어 전문가 대상 현장 요구도 조사, 의료 및 수어 전문가 자문을 진행하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 주된 진료 상황별 시나리오와 기본 의학용어, 의료용어 설명자료 등의 수어통역 콘텐츠를 개발하였다. 본 연구를 통해 농인의 상황과 의료적 중요성을 고려한 의료수어 콘텐츠를 개발하여 의료수어 영역의 전문성을 고취시켰으며, 의료용어 및 의료 정보 학습 주체인 농인들과 수어통역사들에게 효과적이며 효율적으로 정보를 전달하는 의학용어 수어사전 반응형 홈페이지를 개발하였고, 농인 당사자가 주체가 되는 수어번역의 필요성과 중요성을 깨닫게 되었다. The purpose of this study is to develop sign language interpreting content in the medical setting that facilitates Deaf people’s access to medical services in situations where professional and accurate medical sign language interpreting is insufficient. To achieve the purpose of this study, we conducted a literature review, individual interviews for Deaf people, on-site requirement surveys of sign language interpreters and sign language experts, and medical and sign language expert consultations. Based on this, we developed sign language interpreting content such as main care contextual scenarios, basic medical terms, and medical term descriptions. Through this study, we developed medical sign language content considering the situation and medical importance of Deaf people to promote expertise in the medial sign language area and developed a responsive website of sign language medical dictionary that effectively and efficiently delivers information to Deaf people and sign language interpreters; we realized the need and importance of sign language translation for Deaf people to be the main bodies.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to validate the effectiveness of the newly designed (new) ultrasound device by comparing it with conventional (old) device through electromyography (EMG) signals, grip force and task time. Background: The prevalence rate of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) among sonographers is approximately four times higher that that of normal people. The awkward posture and over-exertion of upper extremities are the main risk factors for WMSDs. To reduce these risk factors, ergonomic designs such as adjustable control panels and transducer stations have been introduced for new ultrasound device. Method: A total of 10 obstetricians were participated in this study. To compare the scan stress between two devices (old and new), two types of experiments were performed: (1) Scanning task was carried out to measure muscle activity and grip force during scanning operations. (2) Positioning task was performed to quantify the load while obstetricians were moving the devices. Results: The new device showed significantly less muscle activities and grip forces than old device in scanning task. The task time of the new device was significantly shorter than that of the old one. Conclusion: Overall, the performance of the new device was evaluated more positive than that of old device. Application: Methods and findings of this study could be used to evaluate existing and newly developed ultrasound devices.
