A custom application system, which was based on the finite element analysis, for stress on the head-skirt junction of a hot pressure vessel was developed. This is useful computer-based analysis system which designed to provide an analysis technique and knowledge conveniently available to other people. It was found the evaluation of thermal stress of several typed skirt joint of a pressure vessel could be performed early using this system.
ADI 절삭시 AE신호에 의한 플랭크 마멸폭의 인프로세스 검출

Monitoring of Cutting tool wear is a critical issue in automated machining systems and has been extensively studied for many years. An austempered ductile iron(ADI) exhibits the excellent mechanical properties and the wear resistance. ADI has generally the poor machinability due to the characteristic. This paper presents the in-process detection of flank wear of cutting tools using the acoustic emission sensor and the digital oscilloscope. The amplitude level of AE signal(AErms) is mainly affected by cutting speed and it is proportional to cutting speed. There have been the relationship of direct proportion between the amplitude level of AE signals and the flank wear width of cutting tool the flank wear width corresponding to the tool life is successfully detected with the monitoring system used in this study.
선삭에서 Acoustic Emission을 이용한 칩 형태 검출에 관한 연구

In this study, the feasibility in applying acoustic emision signal for the detection of chip formation is investigated by performing the matchining tests using austempered ductile iron(ADI) for specimen. In the austempered condition the materials are hard, strong and difficult to machine. Their properties are large dependent upon the heat treatment condition of the material's matrix. Accrding to the experimental results, the optimum mechanical properties of austempered low alloy ductile cast iron were obtained with 70 to 80% bainite and 20 to 30% retained austenite in final structure. In spite of decrease in tensile strength and hardness with increasing austempering temperature, the elongation of the austempered ductile cast irons have shown the maximum value at heat treatment of 370℃. In turning experimental, the event count of acoustic emission signal shows close correlation to chip breaking frequency, the event count rate increases with increasing feed rate. When congestion or entangling of chips at cutting tool tip occurs due to a continous chip formation, a significant amount of acostic emission is generated.

This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of acoustic emission signal and surface roughness according to cutting condition in turnning. Austempering provides ductile cast iron with high strength and ductility. Therefore, austempered low alloy ductile cast iron has been successfully applied to heavy duty machine parts, such as rears, crankshaft, locomotive wheels etc. The amplitude level of AE signals is mainly affected by cutting speed in cutting condition and it is proportional to cutting speed. Therefore it is possible to in-process detection of tool wear in case the initial value of AErms at each cutting speed. In case of surface roughness, experimental center line average roughness(Ra) shows close correlation to theoretical value, center line average roughness increase with increasing feed rate.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the otheogonal cutting mechanism of pure aluminum with sintered carbide tools, such as the cutting resistance, shear angle and work, the formation of chip and the instantaneous aspect for cutting process. The results obtained are as follows: 1. In case of negative tool rake angle, the decrease rate of cutting resistance was progressed till high speed cutting. 2. When the cutting depth is small, the shear angle of cutting part depends on the influence of size effect. 3. The formation of chip is classified into shear type, vertical compression type, horizontal compression type and flow type. 4. The measurement of the built-up edge was able to obtain decreased by the geometric expression of the instantaneous aspect for cutting process.

The fracture of a structure, machine, machine part comes of surface micro-crack initiated and propagated at the root notch, where the actual stress is high. Irregular distribution characteristics of micro-crack on the basis of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics doesn't predict exactly remaining life of them. It is thought that maximum micro-crack length represents the total fatigue damage because fatigue can be characterized as a progressive failure phenomenon that proceeds by the propagation and coalescence of micro-cracks to an unstable size. The maximum micro-crack length in an area larger than the sample area can by estimated by statistics of extremes. Therefore, the remaining life of components can be accurately predicted using the distribution of micro-crack length in critical area and the fatigue model.
오스템퍼링 처리한 구상흑연주철의 절삭시 공구마멸에 관한 연구

This study was carried out to investigate the character ot cutting tool's wear by acoustic emission(AE) in machining austempered ductile iron(ADI). The following results have been obtained. (1) Ceramic tool among tools of P20, NC123K and ceramic had the best performance in machining ADI materials. (2) As cutting speed increased, the amplitude level of AE signal increased. (3) The In-process detection of cutting tool's wear in able to by use of AE signals. (4) In initial of cutting, surface roughness was large effect to the flank wear to some range.
