This paper presents the influence of concrete strength and lateral reinforcement on tension stiffening of reinforced concrete tension members. In the test, two different concrete strengths, 280, 700 kgf/cm<sup>2</sup>, were used and the amount of lateral reinforcement was varied. The results obtained show that although the concrete strength increases from 280 to 700 kgf/cm<sup>2</sup>, the split cracking loads remain constant, while transverse cracking loads increase as variation of concrete tensile strength. As the amount of lateral reinforcement increases, the loads of split cracking increase and the lengths of split cracking shorten, especially in high strength concrete.

This study investigated the factors which influence premature failure load of reinforced concrete beams strengthened by epoxy-bonded partially steel plate through finite element analysis. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of design variables such as with or without stirrups, unplated length respect to shear span, reinforcement ratio of steel plate area over internal reinforcement area. Results of analysis, although primary factor which dominated premature failure of reinforced concrete beams was unplated length, premature failure is also influenced by reinforcement ratio and stirrups existence and non-existence. As examined effect by stirrups existence and non-existence, when did not arranged stirrups, premature failure mode appeared by plate-end shear failure that is begin from end of plate. When arranged stirrups, main failure mode of beam appeared plate separation failure or rip-off failure. Using analysis results, regression curve expression proposed for estimation of premature failure load of with or without stirrups beams. Comparisons with experimental data obtained from strengthened reinforced concrete beams tested, proposed model showed good agreement with the experiments.
