Many researchers have interested in Liquid composite molding(LCM) technique instead of Autoclave method to fabricate the composite product. In LCM, a fiber preform is placed in a mold cavity and a liquid resin is injected into the mold to impregnate the empty spaces between the fibers. During the process, the resin flow is one of the important factors for process prediction and development. So this paper presents optimal resin infusion temperature in a mold filling. Composite plate which is composed of carbon fabric/RTM6 resin was fabricated by vacuum assisted resin transfer molding(VARTM) process. To optimize a process condition such as an infusion temperature, permeability of the preform and viscosity of the resin were measured. The optimal temperature of the resin during infusion was suggested by characterizing a viscosity-flow relation. The derived relation shows that the total flow length is proportional to the time integral of a reciprocal of viscosity. The suggested method can be used to any resin system to maximize a resin flow.

When MWK (Multi-axial Warp Knitted Fabric) composites are applied for the structures, the connections of each component using mechanical fastening are needed. The local contacts between the bolts and the composite laminates may induce high stress concentration in the laminates. In this study, stress analysis near the hole boundaries of MWK composite laminate are conducted with various geometric factors under different loadings. In the case of single and multi-pin loaded MWK composites laminates, the results show that the types of loadings and geometric factors of mechanical joints have a significant influence on the joint performances.

The focus of this paper is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of a carbon fiber reinforced BMI matrix composite laminate for high temperature application over 170℃ Comparison tests for the composites made of several resin systems including the BMI were performed to see the property drops at high temperature and to confirm the validity of the composites. All the compo site s were composed of CF3327, the carbon fabric mat from HANKOOK carbon Inc. RTM process was used to make composite laminate plates for specimens. The result shows that the CF3327/BMI composite is adequate for the high temperature application. Several mechanical tests for the CF3327/BMI composites under RTD and ETW conditions were performed according to ASTM test specifications.

As a part of the enhancement of functional property and commercial program, aerospace industry is constantly driving the development about the high performance structural materials. Composite materials are one such class of materials that play a significant role in current and future aerospace components. So this paper presented an overview of the design concepts of composite landing gear components. First, composite fabrication method was determined Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) and the FE model was designed by focus on feasibility for layer pattern of RTM process. Based on the those results achieved, conceptual model was verified by comparison with the used metal torque link through nonlinear static stress analysis and carbon/epoxy composite torque link was fabricated based on the verification result.

In a number of manufacturing process for composite structures, the resin flow is an important factor for process prediction and development. This paper is focused on the investigation of the mechanical property of the carbon fabric/BMI composite laminate. The carbon fabric/BMI composite laminate can be one of light-weight structural materials in aerospace engineering for high temperature application over 170℃. The composites laminate plates were made through RTM process. To check the validity of the composite material for the application, the mechanical characteristics of composite specimens from as-received and environmentally conditioned plates were investigated. The mechanical tests were performed according to the MIL-HDBK-17 and ASTM standards

Composites are being used for the aerospace industry. One of the reasons of using composites instead of existing materials is their potential to reduce weight of the structure. So this study is focused on the conceptual design of the composite torque link for helicopter landing gear parts, and the FE model was developed to check the feasibility considering composite laminates to be made through the RTM process. This conceptual model was verified by iterative design through linear & nonlinear static stress analysis by FEA under ultimate static load.
