This study was performed to evaluate the effects of 10 acaricides on eggs, larvae, nymphs and adults of Rhizoglyphus robini (Acari: Acaridae). In addition, the field test was conducted to control bulb mites by establishing 5 treatment strategies after overwintering on garlic fields. In laboratory testing, carbaryl, dimethoate, fluxametamide showed high acaricidal efficacy not only on adults, nymphs, larvae, but also on eggs and larvae in the body of dead female adults. A mixture of abamectin + emamectin benzoate showed high acaricidal efficacy on adults, nymphs, larvae. Lethal symptoms were largely shown in four types : ① Abnormal leg contraction and relaxation, ② Legs bent towards the body, ③ Hemolymph elution, ④ Darkened body. As a result of the field, all strategies showed excellent effect more than control 1, 2, 3, 4. The best treatment strategy is strategy 2 (1st, a mixture of abamectin + emamectin benzoate treatment for suppressing initial density; 2nd, carbaryl or dimethoate treatment for suppressing not only all developmental stage but also dead female adults body; 3rd, fluxametamide treatment for remaining bulb mites elimination). In conclusion, this study demonstrated acaricidal efficacy and timely treatment strategies on controlling bulb mites by stage of development. These results suggest that “strategy 2” should be used for the control of the bulb mite after overwintering on garlic fields.
