This study deals with the effect of the honing in SCM420H planetary gears. The hardness, tooth profile, lead and roughness of the gear surface can be improved by honing. Therein, the honing techniques are welcomed especially as one of the physical surface improvement methods. As a result, gear honing reduces vibration and noise, and will increase the life of gear. And gear honing also changes the surface of gear tooth in a short time and price, so it is a very important method in manufacturing industry. But nowadays, it is hard to find the detail information of gear honing. The test gear is a planetary gear which is used in the automotive industry. It is manufactured by the hobbing, shaving, carburizing and honing. This study investigates the effect of honing in surface shape of SCM420H planetary gears, including fatigue strength test and characteristics of honing of SCM420H planetary gears.

This paper studied the carburizing of chromium molybdenum steel which the heat treatment effect of gear geometric tolerance, OPD, Runout, the surface hardness, the maximum hardness, the core hardness and the bending fatigue strength were investigated. Firstly, the deformation is observed, and the results of circularity, squareness, OPD and Runout of SCM822, SCM425, and SCM415 are obtained in order. Secondly, in order to investigate the gear hardness, the surface hardness, the maximum hardness and the core hardness of SCM822, SCM425, and SCM415 are obtained; and the surface hardness of SCM822 is about 10% higher than SCM415’s, and about 3% higher than SCM425’s. Thirdly, the fatigue strength of SCM822 is about 10% higher than SCM415’s, and about 7% higher than SCM425’s in the fatigue test results. At last, for the purpose of the minimum deformation of heat treatment, and also the improvement of fatigue strength, the best gear material is SCM822 in this test.

The main objective of this paper is obtaining the optimal carburizing hours which impacts geometric tolerances, OPD(Over Pin Diameter), runout, hardness and fatigure strength of SCM415 spur gear. In order to observe the deformation of the gear, the circularity, squareness, OPD(Over Pin Diameter) and runout were measured at 3hour, 4hour and 5hour respectively. As the result, the 3hour situation is the best, which very similar with the 4hour one. Afterwards, with the purpose of getting the result of gear hardness, the surface hardness, maximum hardness and interior hardness were measured. The result is 5h situation is the best, and it's similar with 4hour one. At last, the fatigue tests have been done which receive the result that the 4h situation showed 9~12% fatigue strength improvement compared with the 3h and 5h ones. To sum up the results, the 4hour situation shows the best performance in accuracy, hardness and fatigue strength.

The characteristics of the torsional systems are generally examined with the nonlinearities such as the several staged clutch damper springs, gear backlashes and drag torques. Generally speaking, the system's characteristics can be found out by the eigensolutions which can show the system natural frequencies and the mode shapes. However, these factors can not give the complete solutions to avoid the noise and vibration problems related to the nonlinear effects. Therefore, several assumptions should be made for solving the real physical system problems under the linear analysis which can reflect the nonlinear effects in the torsional system. This means that the several modified linear factors such as the modified clutch damper spring constants can be used to examine and avoid the natural frequency zones related to the noise and vibration problems. Under the linear analysis with the assumed and modified values, the system can be investigated with the more reliable ways for the realistic phenomena.

This study deals with the effect of the shot peening in SCM420H planetary gears. The hardness and roughness of the gear surface can be improved by shot blast and shot peening. there in, the shot peening techniques are welcomed especially as one of the physical surface improvement methods. The two treatments are used widely, because of the qualitative analysis of shot blast and shot peening has become possible and the surface treatment can be done with little costs compared with other surface improvement methods. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of shot blast and shot peening in surface shape. The fatigue strength test at a constant stress amplitude is performed by using an electrohydraulic serve-controlled pulsating tester. And fatigue test also explained characteristics of shot blast and shot peening of planetary gears.

Korea is the best country for ship-building. But nowadays, the speedboat and yacht are not mostly developed yet. For the sleek lines of ship, more innovative transmission system should be obtained in the ship industry. In general, marine transmissions often use the straight shafts and the helical gears. So it makes problem that engine-room requires large space. In this case, conical gear is the best solution for this. Until now, technology of conical gear is not generalized, but it will be increased more through many applications. So, in order to get conical gear design technology by ourselves, this thesis is conducted. This paper was written to gain useful information of marine gearbox design applied conical gear through the measurement of backlash, computer analysis and tooth contact test of helical conical involute gear pairs.
