In general, major components of nuclear power plant have been evaluated based on 2-dimensional design codes conservatively. However, more exact assessment is necessary for continued operation beyond the design life. In this paper, 3-dimensional stress and fatigue analyses reflecting full geometry and monitored operating condition of reactor pressure vessel have been carried out. The analyses results showed that conservatism of current 2-dimensional evaluation based on design transient. Therefore, it is anticipated that the schemes developed from this research such as 3-dimensional finite element modeling, stress analysis and fatigue analysis related techniques can be utilized as fundamental tools for exact lifetime evaluation and license renewal of major nuclear components.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate biological ligament healing quantitatively after suture-tape augmentation for chronic lateral ankle instability. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at a minimum of 2 years after lateral ligament augmentation using suture-tape. Signal/noise ratios (SNRs) and widths of anterior talofibular ligaments (ATFLs) were measured on preoperative and postoperative MRI by three researchers. ATFL biological healing degrees were analyzed using changes in SNRs and widths of ATFLs and by comparing these metrics with those of normal contralateral ankles. Clinical evaluations were performed using foot and ankle outcome scores (FAOSs), Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) scores, and ankle stress radiographs. Results: Mean FAOS and FAAM scores improved significantly from 62.4 to 93.6 and 58.3 to 92.3, respectively, at final follow-up (p<0.001). Mean SNRs and ATFL widths improved insignificantly from 8.49 to 8.21 and 2.07 to 2.15 mm, respectively, at final follow-up (p=0.424, p=0.718). Significant differences in mean SNRs and ATFL widths were found between ipsilateral and contralateral sides (p<0.001, p=0.002). Spearman's correlation analysis revealed no significant association between clinical outcomes and degrees of biological healing of ATFLs based on MRI findings. Conclusion: Despite improvements in clinical outcome measures, the effects of suture-tape augmentation for chronic lateral ankle instability on biological ligament healing were insignificant. In addition, no significant correlation was found between clinical outcomes and degrees of biological healing of ATFLs.

The structural and leakage integrity of steam generator tube should be maintained during operation even though a crack is existed on it. During the past three decades, several limit load solutions have been proposed to resolve the integrity issue. However, for exact load carrying capacity estimation of specific components under different conditions, these solutions have to be modified by using lots of experimental data. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new burst pressure estimation scheme based on fracture mechanics analyses for steam generator tube with an axial or circumferential through-wall crack. To do this, closed-form engineering equations were derived to get relevant parameters from three dimensional elastic-plastic finite element analyses combined with reference stress method. Also, a series of structural integrity analyses were carried out using the calculated J-integral from engineering equations and fracture toughness data. Thereby, in comparison with the experimental data as well as corresponding estimation results from limit load solutions, it was proven that the proposed estimation scheme can be used as an efficient tool for integrity evaluation of cracked steam generator tubes
