A respiration rate analysed by enzyme kinetics-based respiration model and gas permeability data of LDPE film were applied to design the optical modified atmosphere (MA) packaging condition of persimmon (Diospyros kaki cv. Fuyu) fruits. The fruit quality rapidly decreases due to physiology disorder such as softening and peel blackening. O2 permeance (QO2 in mlㆍhr−1ㆍatm−1ㆍm−2) and CO2 permeance (QCO2 in mlㆍhr−1ㆍatm−1ㆍm−2) of low density polyethylene (LDPE) film samples were measured at 0oC and described as function of thickness (L in μm) as QO2 = (2540×1/L)-16, and QCO2 = (13742×1/L)-70, respectively. MA package containing single persimmon fruit of 225g was designed and tested experimentally at 0oC by using LDPE films. Package atmospheres predicted from the relationship of O2, CO2 and N2 balances on the packages was in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. Physiology disorder occurrence was the lowest at 52 μm package that attained optimum gas condition (O2 2.8% and CO2 5.4%). The computer simulation was found to be effective to help to design the optimum MA packaging condition of individual persimmon fruit.

This paper presents an UHF-band conformal and small discone antenna suitable for communication between an aircraft and a ground station. The proposed antenna consists of a cone, an upper disk, a lower disk, a metallic cavity and a radome. The discone is installed inside a cavity to minimize the effects to structures around the antenna. Electromagnetic absorbing material is applied to the side wall of the cavity to reduce the effects to the cavity side wall. After greatly reducing the height of a conventional discone antenna, the antenna diameter is reduced by placing two disks above the cone. Starting from a prototype structure, the antenna is optimally designed on the basis of parametric analyses. The optimally designed antenna has a diameter of 500mm(0.75 wavelength at the center frequency) and a height of 62.5mm(0.093 wavelength). Measurements of the fabricated antenna show that the proposed antenna has a maximum gain of 0dBi in the elevation direction and –1.2dBi in the azimuth direction, and a reflection coefficient of less than –10dB over 0.43-0.47GHz. 본 논문에서는 항공기와 지상국 통신용으로 적합한 표면 일체형이며 소형인 UHF 대역 디스콘 안테나를 제안하였다. 제안된 안테나는 원뿔, 상부 디스크, 하부 디스크, 금속 캐비티 및 레이돔으로 구성된다. 안테나 주변 구조의 영향을 최소화하기 위해 디스콘을 금속 캐비티 안에 설치하였으며 캐비티의 측벽 영향을 줄이기 위해 측벽에 전파 흡수체를 설치하였다. 통상적인 디스콘 안테나에서 원뿔의 높이를 크게 감소시킨 후 2개의 디스크를 원뿔 위에 배치하여 안테나 직경을 감소시켰다. 기본 구조에서 출발하여 설계변수 분석을 토대로 안테나를 최적 설계하였다. 최적 설계된 안테나의 직경은 500mm(중심 주파수에서 0.75파장)이며 높이는 62.5mm(0.094파장)이다. 안테나를 제작하여 측정한 결과 고각방향 최대이득 0dBi, 방위각 방향 최대이득 –1.2dBi의 특성과 0.43–0.47GHz에서 -10dB 이하의 반사계수 특성을 보였다.

Current status on consumption and packaging of sweet persimmons in USA was surveyed by visiting the market, and three sea shipments were conducted as model export trial from Korean to USA with measurement in ship container temperature and fruit quality. Strategy to promote the export of Korean persimmons was derived. There have been gradual decrease in the price of persimmons due to their increases production, but there seems potential growth in consumption of the fruits from Asian, Hispanic and American people. Compared to the fruits from other countries, Korean persimmons are desired to have higher soluble solid content with stronger red color, but too large sizes are not favored in American market. There has often been temperature fluctuation in shipment container during the sea transport to USA, resulting in surface blackening, skin black spotting and flesh softening. Plastic bag packages with inappropriate unitizing crimping were found to sometimes build up unproper modified atmosphere (high O2 and low CO2) giving high rate of physiological injury.

This study was carried out to investigate the causal factors affected to skin browning of 'Fuyu' Persimmon during storage. The storage experiments were done under CA(Controlled Atmosphere), MA(Modified Atmosphere) and CA+MA. The results were as follows ; 1. The skin browning was occurred in CA+MA-storage after 50 days of storage, and at this point, O₂level was bellow 1%, while CO₂ level was about 10%. 2. 'Fuyu' Persimmon under CA-storage was softened, while the content of glucose and fructose were content increased, the content of sucrose was decreased after 100 dags of storage.
