『지킬 박사와 하이드 씨』의 고딕 소설적 특징과 각색 공연물과의 비교

This essay examines Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, in comparison with its theatrical adaptations. As a gothic fiction written in the fin-de-siècle Victorian age, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde demonstrates the central themes of nineteenth-century gothic literature, featuring the ambiguity of human nature, doubt regarding science and rationalism, and middle-class hypocrisy and guilt, all of which are embodied by the novella’s protagonist, Jekyll. In contrast to these predominantly gothic conventions seen in the fiction, its theatrical and musical adaptations add the key features of melodrama to the original story. Instead of Jekyll’s moral ambiguity and psychological conflict, the stark contrast between Jekyll and Hyde, each incarnating human goodness and malice, symbolizes the indelible separation between good and evil. As the plot has become simplified, a new element of heterosexual romance has also been inserted in Thomas Sullivan’s play and Frank Wildhorn’s musical. These melodramatic features effectively bring out the audience’s (excessive) emotion. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and its theatrical adaptations showcase how a literary classic, turning into a new text using different mediums, can be reread and reinterpreted by the readers and audience. This protean performativity of the text contributes to the novella’s undying popularity.

Blood Meridian is an intriguing text exhibiting Cormac McCarthy’s appropriation of the Western genre. The classical Western depicts the confrontations between two contending forces—the East and the West, white settlers and native Americans, and civilization and wilderness—at the backdrop of the Wild West. On the other hand, the revisionist Western of the 1960s and the 1970s casts light on the unknown histories of the victims of violent suppression and genocide during the era of American imperial wars of the nineteenth century. Blood Meridian reveals the limits of both the classical Western and the revisionist Western with regards to characters, setting and theme. Set in the frontier, as the backdrop of the American myth of the West and Manifest Destiny, the novel severely criticizes American capitalism and imperialism, describing the Glanton gang’s merciless murders. It also blurs the boundaries between civilization and barbarism through its central character, Judge Holden, who incarnates universal evil and mindless violence. While Holden’s book represents knowledge and art that kills life through its aesthetic objectification, McCarthy’s novel ironically grants Holden an eternal life as a fictional character. Insinuating the intricate relations between violence and art, McCarthy demonstrates that art, including writing, creates life and thus makes redemption and regeneration possible.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the correlation between parent-child communication and smartphone overdependence in adolescents. Methods: A systematic search was undertaken to identify all relevant studies published from 2018 to 2022 in Korean on the correlation between parent-child communication and smartphone overdependence in adolescents. Results: Of the 61 articles initially identified, we chose 9 for review. Our findings revealed that positive parent-child communication was negatively associated with adolescent smartphone overdependence. Conversely, negative parent-child communication was positively related to adolescent smartphone overdependence. Additionally, communication of the two parents with a child had significantly similar relationships with adolescent smartphone overdependence. Conclusion: This review provided evidence on the relationship between parent-child communication and adolescent smartphone overdependence. Findings can help develop and implement evidence-based training intervention for preventing adolescent smartphone overdependence. This intervention can help parents of adolescents not only recognize and eliminate negative communication, but also learn and improve effective positive communication.

In “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” “The Man That Was Used Up,” and “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar,” Edgar Allan Poe deconstructs the Eurocentric, anthropocentric definitions of “Man.” The orangutan’s “shrill voice,” the squeaky voice of a cyborgian war hero, and the disembodied voice of a patient under mesmeric treatment, appearing in these three stories, are altogether the acoustic signs that symbolize the dehumanized or posthuman conditions of humanity. While “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” exhibits the existence of the “animalistic” within the rational mind, in “The Man That Was Used Up” and “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar,” readers hear “acousmatic” voices. Due to the ambiguity of the acousmatic voice, which exceeds and disturbs the boundaries of the body as its source, this voice can be considered a sublime object. Frequently seen in gothic and horror stories, the sublime object evokes a sense of terror and anxiety. Poe uses these voices and auditory effects to maximize a thrilling sensation essential to the gothic and horror genres.

통일 이후 북한 주민의 남한으로의 인구이동 및 지역 분포 예측

The aim of the paper is to forecast regional distribution of North Korean migrant in South Korea after sudden unification. There is a assumption that a pattern of North Korean migration follows that of South Korean based on 1970-1980s. Physical as well as psychic distance is taken into forecasts of the migration from North Korea to South Korea at regional level. In addition, disparity of income between South Korean and the migrant is considered for migration-forecast of North Korea. For one year after the unification of Korea, 2.1~14.6% of total population in North Korea would move to South Korea. 54% of migrant would move to Soul metropolitan area and Pyeongannam-do would be most suffering region for population-drain.

This study used satellite data to estimate the regional income in North Korea. To understand the spatial structure of the regional economy, we applied Dagum’s (1997) three-stage method of calculating the Gini coefficient. As a result of estimating regional income, the eastern region has high economic activity, with cities like Chongjin, Kimchaek, Dandong, Hamhung, and Wonsan. The western region has a central economic hub in Pyongyang. The key areas of Pyongyang are Ryugang, Taedonggang, Taesong, Dongdaewon, Mangyeongdae, Moranbong, Todeonggang, Ssangmun, Seodaegeum, Yongsan, Junggwang, Pyongyang, and Hyeongsan. The economy of the North Korean border areas has grown or stayed the same compared to other parts of the country. These areas have a lot of Chinese cities nearby. The main cities are in areas near the border with South Korea. In 2020, the Gini coefficient in North Korea was 0.50, which is more unequal than in South Korea (0.32). The space structure of Pyongyang is shown to be centered on Pyongyang-Nampho-South Pyongan. The gap between cities and counties accounted for 69% of the total gap, indicating that North Korea’s main regional policy, the Balanced Development Strategy, has failed.

스마트미디어 시대의 새로운 정보격차 유형과 해소방안에 대한 규범적 검토

정보화의 급속한 진전으로 현대생활에서 정보가 차지하는 비중은 비약적으로 증대하였으며, 이러한 정보기술의 발전은 미디어의 성격을 쌍방향화, 멀티미디어화 하였다. 최근에는 새로운 정보화의 추세인 모바일의 보급이 급속히 증가하면서 스마트폰, 모바일 서비스, 위치기반 서비스 등 스마트 기술의 등장과 함께 이제 정보사회를 넘어서 스마트 시대가 주목 받고 있다. 이러한 스마트 시대의 도래는 정보격차의 개념을 확장시키고 프레임을 변화시키고 있다. 스마트폰 이용자가 3천만 명을 넘어서는 등 스마트 모바일의 사회적 확산으로 물리적 접근격차가 크게 해소되고는 있지만, 스마트폰 보급 확산에 따라 PC 및 유선 인터넷 기반의 기존 격차와 스마트 기기 및 모바일 기반의 새로운 정보격차가 중첩 발생되고, 디지털 미디어의 활용능력에 따른 격차가 새로운 사회적 이슈로 등장하고 있다. 스마트 환경에서의 정보격차는 실생활에 전방위적으로 부정적 영향을 미치기 때문에, 정보화 성과 이면에 나타날 수 있는 정보격차 문제에 적극적으로 대응하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 스마트 시대의 모바일 확산과 함께 확장되고 변화하고 있는 정보격차의 개념 및 현상에 대하여 보다 심층적으로 검토하고, 헌법상의 정보격차에 대한 논의와 법제현황의 검토를 통해 정보격차의 해소를 위한 개선방안을 고찰하고자 한다. The purpose of this paper is examine the concept and pheno menon of the digital divide which expanded and changed with the proliferation of smart media era. Share information is occupied by modern life with the rapid development of the information was growing by leaps and bounds. And the nature of the media through development of these information technology has changed interactive and multi media. Recent advances in mobile penetration are increasing rapidly. Smart age is now drawing attention beyond the information society with the advent of smart technologies such as smart phones, mobile services, location-based services. The advent of smart age extends the concept of the digital divide and changing the frame. While physical access to the gap significantly has dissolve through socially proliferation of smart mobile, mobile-based new gap generating and the literacy gap between digital media has emerged as a new social issues. Because digital divide in smart environments exert a negative impact on life, it is important to actively respond to the digital divide.
