Variation in the measured strength of gray iron resulting from the differences in the profile and dimension of test pieces was examined. Experiments were performed on the test pieces with various fillet radii. gauge lengths and section diameters. Results were analyzed theoretically utilizing the stress distribution obtained by finite element method. and the stress-strain curves of each test piece. Fillet radius does not have any effect on the tensile strength of cast iron unless it is too small in comparison to the section diameter. This because the stress arond the filled relaxes with the nonelastic behavior of cast iron. The length and drameter of the test section affect the strength in different ways. That is. the strength obviously decreases with increase in diameter. while it is not affected or slightly increased by increasing of diameter. Consequently. the statistical theory where the strength decreases with increasing specimen volume can not be applied to cast iron. The Phenomenon in cast iron is explained by the fact that the eutectic cell structures of graphite flakes at the surface layer act as defects and results in the reduction of the net sectional area of the specimen. This effect becomes more pronounced in small specimens.

After new prescription law separating prescribing and dispensing functions between pharmacists and physicians in drug use process, the needs for knowing drug information by patients are ever increasing. Though many online portal sites providing health information are available in Korea, there is no online site which is providing comprehensive health and drug information based on evidence-based resources for the public. A online portal system was designed for satisfying patient's right to know and transferring prescription information electronically to community pharmacies on patient's preference. The digital contents for satisfying patient's right to know consist of multimedia education information for diseases and medications. The online system for transferring prescription information by patients was developed using commonly used electronic mailing system with specially designed document format. This system is expected to be one of the best online models for the public to acquire health and drug information on their own demands.

In the case of ordinary gas welding, high temperature preheating to about 500∼600℃ is generally said to be indispensable in preventing chill formation on freezing. Weld cracking was remarkably affected by the preheating temperature of casting, and is likely to occur by the thermal stress caused by the unevenness of temperature of casting in preheating or postheating. On the other hand, in the case of modified forehand method which was devised by the authors to prevent chill formation, preheating at such high temperature is not necessary. Therefore, in this case, it is assumed that low temperature preheating to about 300℃ is suitable to prevent weld cracking because the iocalized thermal stress due to temperature gradient in the weld zone can be decreased effectively. Furthermore, in welding tests of actual gray and spheraidal graphite cast irone, it was confirmed that weld cracking seldom occurs by use of the modified forehand method, even when welded without preheating.

Expanded polystyrene beads used as aggregate instead of natural gravel for the manufacture of light weight hollow concrete block. These granules are spherical, hydrophobic and have a closed cell structure. But they do not absorb water. Steam-cured lightweight plastic aggregate concrete block prepared from portland cement, natural sand and expanded polystyrene beads were investigated by means of test of compressive strength and measurement of specific gravity.
