ZrN was deposited on a 304 stainless steel substrate by the reactive sputtering technique, and deposition rate and nitrogen content of deposits were measured as functions of partial pressures of N₂and Ar gases, the input power and the substrate bias voltage, respectively. X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope were used to analyse the preferred orientation and morphology of the deposits. Deposition rate decreased rapidly with increasing the N₂pressure and decreasing the input power, while it decreased slowly with increasing the Ar pressure and decreasing the bias voltage. The N/Zr ratio of the deposts was in the range of 1.6-1.77 for the most deposition conditions. ZrN coatings deposited without any bias voltage showed columnar structure with a strong(111) preferred orientation, and the crystallites were fine and the surface was smooth. Those deposited with bias voltage showed a mixed texture of(111)-(311), where the columnar structure was more or less suppressed.
On Symmetry Fixing of the D3 Brane in AdS5×S5

In the static gauge, we investigate the supersymmetry realized on a D3 brane in the AdS5×S5 background. For the symmetry fixing condition, the covariant and the Killing spinor gauges are taken. The worldvolume supersymmetry transformation rule for each gauge is then obtained. We show that neither of the two fixing conditions is not suitable for the correct description of the ‘vacuum’ configuration of the worldvolume theory because both make the ‘vacuum’ non-supersymmetric as opposed to the usual expectation. Thus, we manifest what the problem of symmetry fixing is in the study of the D3 brane in the AdS5×S5 background.

Dashilar, an area in the southern part of old Beijing, had been culturally and economically marginalized, to the point where the ‘south city’ (南城/城南) gained the connotations of poverty, stagnation and uncouthness. Yet, since the late 2000s, it has been under profound spatial transformation by the implementation of the culture-led urban regeneration policy. The renovation of siheyuan (courtyard housing) and hutong (narrow alley), and the hosting of the Beijing Design Week (BJDW) marked the new phase of urbanization, which is definitely different from the dominant approach of urban development. Based on the revaluation of heritage buildings such as Xintiandi (in Shanghai) and cultural and creative industries such as 798 Art Zone (in Beijing), Dashilar shows a case of linking culture and creativity to a residential area. An urbanism called Hutopolis (胡同城), a visionary scenario for China’s urbanization, emerges out of these practices. This paper traces the processes that enable this and similar upgrading or gentrifying projects in Beijing, and connects them with the trends of urban governance. Although BJDW and Hutopolis have the negative side of functioning as another spectacle, the case of Dashilar shows that the local communities can be developed organically, at least theoretically, through complex processes of collaboration, conflict and contestation between government agencies, property developers, and cultural and creative industrie
Numerical and experimental investigation of conventional and un-conventional preswirl duct for VLCC

This paper shows the study of preswirl duct as an effective energy saving devices that have been devised and reviewed to support the propeller performance, especially for the ship of VLCC with large block coefficients. From the bare hull wake measurements, typical upper/lower asymmetry of hull wake at the propeller disk was found. The 2kinds of pre-swirl duct, Unconventional half circular duct and Conventional circular pre-swirl duct have been designed and reviewed to recover the loss of propeller running in that condition. The general function of the pre-swirl duct was set to work against this asymmetry of wake and generate pre-swirled flow into the propeller against the propeller rotating direction. The optimum self propulsion tests with various angle configurations were carried out and the best configuration was decided. Accordingly, cavitation test was carried out with best configuration of unconventional half circular duct. The blade surface and tip vortex cavitation behaved smoother when the duct was mounted. The hull pressure amplitudes reflected this difference, so the hull pressure amplitude with duct was smaller than that of without duct.
