This study analyses support policy and structural change of textile industry in Daegu Kyungbuk region, and suggests major issues for textile industry's innovation. In Daegu Kyungbuk, it was 1999 that a policy, so called Milano Project, in order to promote a textile industry was devised. In 2004, the Regional Industrial Promotion Plan was devised. The plan was born from a view point of establishing a regional innovation system and of promoting the innovative clusters under a knowledge based economy. After then, the Regional Industry Promotion Project or Regional Strategic Industry Promotion Project became a core of regional textile industrial policy. Research results indicated that the first stage Milano project (1999-2003) showed both positive and negative effects. There were no long-term development plan, clear vision and strategy. But, core industrial infrastructure for differentiated product development, such as New product Development Support Center and Dyeing Design Practical Application Center, was constructed. The second stage Daegu Textile Industry Promotion Plan (2004-2008) displayed a significant technological performance and new product sales with the assistance of Kyungbuk province. Also, textile industry revealed positive fruits such as financial structure, productivity, and profitability as a result of strong restructuring. In industrial structure, there was a important change from clothe textile material to industry textile material. Most of textile companies did not showed high capability in CEO's technology innovation intention, entrepreneurship, R&D and human resource competency in compare with other industry. We suggested that Daegu Kyungbuk has to select and concentrate on the high-tech textile material and living textile for sustainable development and competitiveness. We also proposed a confidence and cooperation based innovation network and company oriented innovation cluster.

This research compares and analyses determinants of performance of manufacturing SMEs between Korea and Taiwan. To achieve the goal, the study has conducted a research by collecting questionnaire data of 408 Korean manufacturing related SMEs and 98 Taiwanese`s. Results showed the research model was valid. In other words, characteristics of top management, corporate strategy, organizational structure, and management system are proved to be critical determinants of performance of SMEs. As a consequence of comparison and analysis between Korean and Taiwanese SMEs, corporate strategy and organizational structure were more influential determinants to Korean SMEs` performance. Reversely for Taiwanese SMEs` performance, characteristics of top management and management system were more convincing than other variables where corporate strategy and organizational structure were less effective. This study indicates both theoretical and practical implications. In a context of theoretical implication, there need to a management by paradox. At the end, the study suggests research limitations, future research directions as well as research propositions based on organizational theory and business strategy.

This paper examines the effect of growth need strength on job engagement and burnout in the context of South Korean workers. We also investigate the mediating role of negative emotion regulation and intrinsic motivation in the relationship between them. A survey was conducted with 244 employees from South Korean manufacturing companies. Contrary to our expectation, there was no direct effect of growth need strength on job engagement and burnout. Unlikely this, negative emotion regulation mediated relations between growth need strength and the two outcome variables. Intrinsic motivation mediated relations between growth need strength and job engagement. Our study contributes to organizational behavior and psychology by highlighting the significance of traits such as negative emotion regulation and intrinsic motivation on the relationship between growth need strength and job attitude such as job engagement and burnout.

본 연구는 과거 대구지역의 성장과 고용창출을 주도해 왔고 현재는 지역 4대 전략산업 가운데 하나인 섬유산업을 중심으로 R&D시스템의 실증적 분석과 함께 섬유를 제외한 기타 전략산업들과 비교분석 하였다. R&D성과의 내생성을 통제하기 위하여 도구변수법을 사용한 2단계 최소자승법으로 분석하였다. 주요 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 차이분석 결과에 따르면 R&D투입, R&D성과 그리고 기업성과에 있어서 섬유산업과 기타 전략산업 간에 유의적인 차이를 보였고, 기타 전략산업이 섬유산업 보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 기타 전략산업과는 달리 섬유산업에 있어서는 R&D투입이 R&D성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, R&D투입과 R&D성과가 기업성과에 미치는 영향은 섬유산업에 있어서 비유의적인 것으로 나타났고, 기타 전략산업과는 이러한 영향력에 있어서 차이를 보이고 있었다. 다만 유의적인 차이는 발견할 수 없었다. 이는 지역 전체 전략산업의 R&D활동의 선순환 구조가 제대로 작동하지 못하고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 이밖에도 R&D성과에 미치는 결정변수와 기업성과에 미치는 조절변수들의 분석결과에서는 전략산업별로 다르게 나타나고 있음을 알 수 있었다. This study investigated the R&D system of strategic industries in the Daegu region, especially focusing on textile industry which had led the regional economy and the job creation in the past. Also, this study analyzed the difference between textile and other strategic industries in the R&D system. The hypotheses were tested by the survey data collected from 300 firms and the two-stage least squares were used for controlling the endogeneity of R&D output. The empirical study showed the following results. At first, the other strategic industries showed significantly higher R&D input, output and firm performance than the textile industry. Second, unlike the other strategic industries, there was no significantly positive effect of R&D input on R&D output in the textile industry. Third, all strategic industries did not make the virtuous circle of R&D system in which R&D input, R&D out and firm performance influenced positively each other. This results imply that lavish R&D budget does not necessarily guarantee firm performance and rather, the construction of efficient R&D system is more important for the successful R&D activities and firm performance of strategic industries.
