Science of cultivation and cultivation techniques, partially compensating for unfavorable environmental conditions, of Porphyras as practiced in Japan have been improving year-by-year. The newest techniques are as follows: first, selected good cultivars and artificial seeding with tanks indoors or outdoors on land instead of in the sea; second, seedling nursery by artificial drying with nursery apparatus constructed with U-shaped pipe riser instead of by natural drying with pole system nursery apparatus: third, high speed harvesting boat equipped with motor driven cutter, which one person can manage it, instead of the vessel with motor driven cutter; fourth, preservation of harvested gametothalli of Porphyra as material for dried, paper-like thin, rectangular sheets of Porphyras to keep freshness in stirring tanks instead of in the freezer, and so on. This is the modern method of Porphyra cultivation which is performed by whole life-cycle management.
Goniotrichopsis reniformis (Kajimura) Kikuchi comb. nov. (Stylonematales, Rhodophyta) from Japan
신종암,Kikuchi, Norio,West, John A.,Kajimura, Mitsuo,Shin, Jong-Ahm 한국조류학회(藻類) 2006 ALGAE Vol.21 No.2
The morphology and life history of Stylonema reniforme Kajimura (Stylonematales, Rhodophyta) from Japan were investigated and its taxonomic placement was discussed. This species has 6-30 discoid chloroplasts devoid of a pyrenoid in each cell. This is a typical feature of the genus Goniotrichopsis. The species reproduced only by monospores, which were formed by the direct transformation of the vegetative cells similar to the type species Goniotrichopsis sublittoralis Smith. Goniotrichopsis reniformis (Kajimura) Kikuchi comb. nov. was proposed. The asexual life history of the present species was completed in 3-10 weeks at 15-20°C in culture.

The red rot disease-resistant experiment using the wild- , red- , green- and two recombinant wild -types by crossing between red - and green -type pigmentation mutant of Porphyra yezoensis was performed as a part of the disease-resistant cuiltivar breeding. The number of lesions infected with red rot disease of the green -type was smaller than the red-and wild-type, and that of the recombinant wild-type, ZGRW, was smaller than the recombinant wild-type, ZRGW, and the wild-type, hence, it suggests that the ZGRW was favorable variety concerning the resistance red rot disease. Moreover, since there were difference between the two recombinant wild-types concerning the red rot diseaseresistance of gametophytic thalli, it might be suggest that this character was transmitted accord?ng by the cytoplasmic ?nheritance manner.
갈조식물 뜸부기(Pelvetia siliquosa)의 영양기관 및 생식기관의 저장물질
윤장택,신종암 여수대학교 1998 論文集 Vol.13 No.2
The reserve substances of Pelvetia silipuosa, which were collected at Sunyoo island, western coast of Korea, in May 4, 1998, were investigated by using the vegetative and reproductive organs. The differences between receptacles and growing branches constituents were observed. Receptacles had a higher content of water, but they had two times lower content of ash than growing branches. The protein content of growing branches and receptacles were 6.87±0.69g and 6.56±0.41g, and the glucose 319.3±15.8㎎/100 g and 377.7㎎/100g. The laminarin of receptacle were 22.86±0.81g/100g and growing branches were 22.41±0.69g, which contained the highest of all constituents. The mannitol were 7.67±0.12g and 6.63±0.32g in receptacle and growing branches.

This study was performed to obtain basic information on the ecology of Zoxtera marina and to promote efficient conservation of this species which has been decline in Gamak Bay, Yeosu, Korea. Water column characteristics and eelgrass morphology at Anpori, Jangsuri and Wonpori were investigated every month from December 1999 to November 2000. The water temperature, salinity and pH at the three sites were 10.0-27.0℃, 29.4-34.7‰ and 8.1-8.5, repectively. The water temperature at Anpori tended to be slightly lower than that at the other locations; the salinity at Wonpori from July to November was a little lower than that of the other location. The concentrations of NO2-N, NO3-N, NH4-N, PO4-P and Si(OH)4-Si at the three sites were 0.9-1.3, 2.0-6.2, 7.8-9.0, 3.0-3.6 and 22.2-30.2 μM, repectively. The concentration of NO3-N at Wonpori from June to November was somewhat lower that at the other locations; that of NH4-N at Jangsuri was somewhat lower than the others. The mean shoot height and leaf width of the Anpori, Jangsuri and Wonpori populations were 80.6 cm and 0.9 mm, 90.0 cm and 1.0 mm, and 95.3 cm and 1.0 mm, repectively. The mean total shoot weight of the Anpori, Jangsuri and Wonpori ones was 24.5, 31.0 and 19.7 g, respectively. The mean leaf and branch numbers of the Anpori, Jangsuri and Wonpori population were 16.5 and 2.6, 16.1 and 2.4 and 15.4 and 2.6 individuals, respectively. The correlation coefficients between shoot height and water temperature, leaf width and total shoot weight, leaf numbers and branch numbers, and Si(OH)4-Si and NO3-N were 0.726, 0.692, 0.862 and 0.693, repectively. The coefficients between shoot height and NO3-N, total shoot weight and NO3-N, water temperature and Si(OH)4-Si, water temperature and salinity, and water temperature and NO3-N were -0.716, -0.536, -0.685 and -0.685, respectively. The first four principal components explain 71.1% of the total sample variance. For axis 1, shoot height and water temperature tended to correlate with the population of Jangsuri, followed by the Wonpori population, and Si(OH)4-Si and NO3-N tended to correlate strongly with the Anpori population. For axis 2, total weight, leaf width, leaf number and branch number showed a tendency to correlate with the Anpori and ?Jangsuri populations. For axis 3, the Anpori population tended to be influenced by NO2-N and PO4-P. For axis 4, the Wonpori and Jangsuri populations tended to be affected by salinity. The tendency, however, differed according to season.
