There are lots of efforts to get more and more higher level of reliability maintainability availability and safety in all the railway system development process. To do a RAMS activity and process very effectively many an information is required based on operational knowledge and manufacturer's engineering technology together. But some interests between organization in demand sector and manufacturers in supply makes it difficult to do. This paper for this reason presents an idea about the activities and process for SR001 system which is newly under developing and manufacturing by SMRT. Especially we provide it with some idea how to integrate every activity and process and to analyze it specifically for system level as well. With these efforts we provide a typical RAMS process of SR001 that could be applicable to other rolling stock system and the improvement of the system over total life cycle phases.

Recently, also in railway vehicles, related products are being designed and manufactured through RAMS activities in order to secure their reliability, availability, maintainability & safety. Subway operators are conducting R&D on various preventive maintenance methods and applying them to the field so as to establish a reliability centered maintenance(RCM) system. In this connection, manufacturers shall carry out R&D based on reliability from the first design stage of development to provide high quality products to subway operators. And operators shall have the products operated properly to their particular operating environment and managed based on the standard maintenance manual. Not only that, but the related field data shall be fed back into the manufacturers to upgrade upcoming products by organic cooperation between manufacturer and operators. However, the mutually beneficial cooperative relationship is not still developed in the domestic railway industry. In terms of methodology for life prediction, this study was intended to analyze field data on relays used for rolling stocks considering operational characteristics in the position of subway operators and predict parts reliability using reliability prediction program from the standpoint of manufacturers as well.

In order to establish preventive maintenance standards through analysis & reliability prediction of about 60,000pcs of 20kindsof relays and contractors used for Seoul subway trains, several life prediction methodologies were applied Firstly, Occurrence, Severity, Detection were defined and predicted by applying operation characteristic of EMU to the number of actions of relays & contactors which the manufacturers generally offer as the life cycle data. Secondly, failure distribution and average life of pails were analyzed through interpretation of field data based on a lot of experience which had built up in the field for a long time. Finally, using the 2I7PLUS standard as a reliability prediction program, comparative analysis of use reliability and inherent reliability was done through reliability prediction at the pan level and system level.

Reliability means that a product maintains its initial quality and performance at certain period of time(time, distance, cycle etc) under given condition without failure. Given conditions include both environmental condition and operating condition. Environmental condition means common natural environment such as temperature, humidity, vibration, and working condition means artificial environment such as voltage, current load, install place, hours of use, which occurs during using the product. In the field of railway vehicles, although components of railway vehicles with reliability are the trend of mandatory as persisting period of railway vehicles is extended, using components of railway vehicles is insufficient for the practical reliability assessment. but the meaning of the first railway operating agency to acquire the parts in the field, the data suggest the reliability of products if you can and can show the reliability of modular units and modular units can provide the reliability of if you can present reliability of the entire system is thought to be here In this study, lifespan of micro-switch for master controller is analyzed and prediction is performed based on its field data considering the special circumstances of railway vehicles operating agency, such as a large number of trains operates on the same line.

As a public transit playing an important role in the era of high gas prices subway corresponds the national strategy 'Low carbon Green growth'; accordingly passengers who would use the transportation are steadily increasing. Subway operators are required to provide subway users with services based on higher-quality system safety convenience & high reliability level. Furthermore as the legally allowed maximum life time of EMUs is extended it is necessary to localize & standardize the parts of EMUs. This paper presents a modelling of systematic EMU(SR001) manufacturing technique which enables us to reflect passenger and subway operator's demands in the whole EMU manufacturing process from the initial design phase to its completion by making full use of the know-how based on subway operators' experiences. SR001 enabled SMRT's staffs to participate in the EMU design & its equipment manufacturing; consequently it realized the innovative system which meets passengers' requirements. Moreover the process lead time was reduced dramatically. The result of this research will be helpful in providing useful guidelines for railway industry policy and development making in Korea.

Recently railway operators are doing a lot of researches and studies in order to apply reliability technologies to their maintenance tasks. The maintenance in the aviation and the munitions industry has been developed enough to be benchmarked with the high quality reliability technologies; however railway industry is still situated in a rudimentary stage with insufficient & limited data. 5678 Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation which has 17 year experience of the EMU maintenance and system development has made a constant effort for appling RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) to the maintenance for a few years. In this connection the case study is to be introduced. This paper is based on 'RCM Gateway to World Class Maintenance' by Anthony M. Smith". The reliability technology are applied to the specific EMU and its system by 7 stages; accordingly applying SMRT's maintenance experience a unique standard for FMEA(failure mode effect analysis) & LTA(logical tree analysis) is established. Moreover for reasonable and effective preventive maintenance tasks the case considering an analysis of failure effects is selected in the final step 7. SMRT will develop reliability technologies through the application of the results to all the EMU systems.

It has used for Rolling Stock Maintenance a number of maintenance system applied RCM in Railway(Korea Railroad Corporation Seoul Metro Korail Airport Railroad Corporation etc) so far. Some institutions has been using develop Computational System including reliability process. A majority of the system has computerized maintenance work. but it is shown that developed focus on administrator and developer not user. SMRT(Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation) has developed computational system for maintenance in the '90s and saved many data about Maintenance Historical Data. However this system reached the limits application of this data. Maintenance of computer systems is managed directly by the field staff and to introduce Reliability-centered maintenance SMRT was continually reviewed system development trends and supplement the existing system. To successfully operate RCM program should be gained full support in the whole company and field communicate secure a reliable data from field and the most important take a patience. Our corporation will operate and develop successful RCM thorough review of these problems in the future.
