It is necessary to investigate the welding performance and fracture resistance of welding part in structure. This study presented a most suitable condition of welding process for butt and lap joints by $CO_2$ arc welding which is widely used in the vehicle structure. Also it was conducted to tensile and fatigue test under various welding conditions. For butt and lap joints, the best conditions of welding voltage and current were 30V and 320A, respectively, in 3.2 and 4.5 mm thick steel plate. Under this condition it could be taken the highest tensile strength and fatigue strength, and a good bead appearance.

In recent years there has been a growing interest for the use of natural fibers in composite applications due to their low cost, environmental friendliness, and good mechanical properties. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristic of bending strength on bamboo fiber reinforced polymer composites. The parameters of RTM process depend on the weight ratio of bamboo fiber and resin, the number of bamboo ply and amount of hardening agent. Besides the existence of pore in composites according to vacuum time investigated a effect on mechanical properties of reinforced polymer composites. Test result shows that compressive strength was a maximum(approximately 1,840kgf/$cm^2$) value when weight ratio of resin was 12%.
가스버너 열충격에 의한 NiCr/ZrO<sub>2</sub>계 경사기능재의 열적 파괴특성

Joining Yittria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) to NiCr metal was fabricated using YSZ/NiCr Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) Interlayer by hot pressing process. Microscopic observations demonstrate that the composition and microstructure of YSZ/NiCr FGM distribute gradually in stepwise way, eliminating the macroscopic ceramic/metal interface such as that in traditional ceramic/metal joint. The thermal characteristics of this YSZ/FGM/NiCr joint were studied by thermal shock testing and therml barrier testing. Thermal shock test was conducted by gas burner rig. Acoustic Emission (AE) monitoring was performed to analyze the microfracture behavior during the thermal shock test. It could be confirmed that FGM was the excellent performance of thermal shock/barrier resistance at above $1000^{\circ}C$.

Recently structural applications of adhesive bonding method have been increased extensively in automobile industry. Adhesively-bonded joints which are used in automobile field are exposed to various environmental conditions. In this study, several environmental factors were concerned to evaluate their effects on the adhesive strength such as air temperature, water temperature, exposed time in water. The specimens are exposed for 1, 10 and 100 hours at various air temperatures to evaluate the effects of the air and water temperature on the adhesive strength. It is proved that the adhesive strength decrease with rising the air and water temperature, and the adhesive strength decrease steeply at the higher temperature with increasing the exposure time in water.

A traditional notion of composites has been composed as a uniform dispersoid, but now it is proposed without regard to such rule with process development. Functionally Graded Material(FGM) consists of a new material design that is to make intentionally irregular dispersion state. In this study, thermal stress analysis of plasma spraying PSZ/NiCrAlY gradient material was conducted theoretically using a finite-element program. A formations of the model are direct bonding material(NFGM) and FGM with PSZ and NiCrAlY component element. The temperature conditions were $700^{\circ}C$ to 1100.deg. C assuming a cooling-down precess up to room temperature. Fracture damage mechanism was analyzed by the parameters of residual stress.

Ceramic/metal composites have many attractive properties and great potential fur applications. Interfacial fracture properties of different layered composites are important in material integrity. Therefore, evaluation of fracture toughness at interface is required in essence. In this study, the mechanical characteristics for interface of ceramic/metal composites were investigated by indentation test of micro-hardness method. Apparent interfacial toughness of TBC system could be determined with a relation between the applied load and the length of the crack formed at the interface by indentation test.
경사기능성 세라믹/ 금속 복합재료의 열충격특성에 관한 연구

This study was carried out to anlayze the heat-resistant characteristics of functionally gradient material(FGM) composed with ceramic and metal. The thermal fracture behavior of plasma-sprayed FGM and conventional coating material(NFGM) was exaimined by acoustic emession technique under heating and cooling. Furnace cooling and rapid cooling tests were used to examine the effect of temperature change under various conditions, respectively. At the high temperature above $800^{\circ}C$, it was shown that FGM gives higher thermal resistance compared to NFGM by AE signal and fracture surface analysis.

Metal/ceramic composites structures have many attractive properties with great potential for applications that demand high stiffness as well as chemical and biological stability, thermal and electrical insulation. They are currently in use for mechanical and thermal protection in cutting tool and engine parts. Thus, determination of adhesive properties for coating part is one of the most important problems for the extension of the use of coated materials. In this work, bending strength of Functionally Graded Materials(FGM) are evaluated by means of bending strength tester. The graded layer according to the load condition showed the change of the bend strength.

In this study, the interlaminar fracture behaviors of laminated GFRP composites were investigated, and the results could be used for damage tolerance design based on fracture mechanics. Three types of laminated GFRP composites that can be used as high voltage insulating materials in magnet systems were fabricated in order to study the interlaminar fracture behavior according to the molding process. The values of interlaminar fracture toughness for the VPI, prepreg, and HPL laminate were 1.9 MPa · 1/2, 1.7 MPa · 1/2, and 2.2 MPa · 1/2, respectively. HPL laminate showed the best fracture resistance. The failure modes of HPL and VPI were similar to that of an adhesive joint, and prepreg laminates showed partial cohesive failure mode due to internal voids.
