The purpose of this study is to confirm the mediating role of satisfaction with school career activity participation and career development competencies in the relationship between conversation with parents and learning motivation of domestic general high school students. For this purpose, data from 1,395 second-year high school students who participated in KRIVET's Elementary and Secondary Career Education Status Survey (2022) was used and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First, the positive relationship between high school students' perceived conversation with parents and learning motivation was statistically significant. This means that the more adolescents talk with their parents about their interests, aptitudes, career paths, and studies, the more motivated they are to learn independently. Second, satisfaction with participation in school career activities was confirmed to have a mediating effect between conversation with parents and motivation to learn. This means that high school students who have frequent conversations with their parents are more satisfied with their school career activities and have higher learning motivation. Third, the mediating effect of career development competencies between conversation with parents and learning motivation was also confirmed to be statistically significant. In other words, students who reported having frequent conversations with their parents had a better understanding of themselves, their ability to understand and explore the world of work and careers, and their career planning and preparation abilities were strengthened, which ultimately led to the promotion of learning motivation. Fourth, it was statistically confirmed that conversations with parents sequentially influenced learning motivation through satisfaction with participation in school career activities and career development competencies. This confirmed that high school students who communicate more frequently with their parents were more satisfied with their school's career activities, which led to improved career development competencies and ultimately increased autonomous motivation for academics. Based on these results, implications and suggestions for career education at home and school were presented.
