Subway's spaces compose, as themselves, a kind of cultural zone with its proper logic and rhythm of people's behavior. This study tries to define, at first, the position of Seoul's subway spaces including each corner of train station, inside of train, and the process of ticketing, waiting riding and so on. The objective of this trial is a more structured and holistic understanding on the space consumption behavior highly conditioned under this specific environment of urban mobility. Several categories of concept are needed to approach forward this objective. Physical space itself, mobility and its pattern, speed and its changement, demographic factor in each time unit and each corner of the space are elements to be co-related materials, this study presents some behavioral and cultural maps of seoul's subway. They permit more systemized analysis of subway's spaces and their daily 'communication' with subway users. The behavioral patterns, here, can be something proper to the subway's culture, or, can be that of Seoul's residents. And, naturally, those patterns are not unchangeable in a rapidly developing environment of transportation. This complex of 'space-time-culture' process shows us, as the result, one important characteristic of Seoul's urban culture in its everyway life.
북 아프리카의 사회변화와 문화적 정체의식의 갈등 : 한 농촌 공동체의 민족지적 사례

오랜 역사과정 속에서 유럽과의 상호작용을 겪어온 북 아프리카의 사회는 유럽의 식민지배가 끝난 오늘날 새로운 자신들의 정체의식을 형성하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 이 논문에서는 튀니지아의 남부 사하라 사막 유역의 한 농촌지역에서 겪고 있는 급격한 사회경제적인 변화를 배경으로 설정한다. 자원의 한계와 계속 늘어나는 인구의 생계근거를 찾아 유럽의 시장으로 진출한 남성 주민들은 유럽의 도시에서 중소자영업을 하면서, 돈을 벌어 사하라 유역의 고향마을에 남겨둔 가족들의 생계를 보장하고, 거기에서 나아가 고향마을에 자본을 재투자하여 빠른 속도로 환경을 바꿔나간다. 경제 및 교육환경이 바뀌면서 주민들은 이제 그에 걸맞는 새로운 사회관계와 정체의식의 틀이 필요하게 되었다. 정체의식을 형성시키는 범주들인 유목민 혹은 농경 정착민이라는 생활양식의 틀, 그리고 아랍인 혹은 베르베르라는 종족적인 규정의 틀들은 고정된 것이 아니다. 변화하는 환경속에서 각 인구집단은 여러가지 정체성의 범주들을 새로 채택하거나 이전의 것에서 벗어나는 실험을 거듭한다. 여기에 오랜 과거로부터 지역주민들의 자의식의 상징역할을해온 서낭당이 정통 이슬람과 지역적인 전통 사이의 단절과 연속과정에서 재해석되며 중요한 매개의 역할을 하게 된다. Today's Nothern African societies, which have ad a long hostory of relationship with European societies, are making considerable effort to constitute their own self-identity, especially after their experience of European colonial period. This study starts with a brief observation over socio-economic transition in a region of Saharian deserts. Deficiency of rawmaterial and growing populationin this region forced male adults to go to Europe searching for means of thier family's living. They have worked in European cities since late 1950s. Revenue earned there were reinvested fornew house construction and other economic projects in their native place. So they could make rapid change of theirenvironments. Economical and educational environment having been changed,the inhabitants now come to need a new frame of identity and social relationship. Categories forming people's identity like 'normadic' people or 'sedentary' people named according to their modes of living and like 'Arabic people' or 'Berberpeople' named by ethnic determination are not fixed. The inhabitants now attempt to take various ways which may impose diverse identities on themselves under their rapidly changing environment. In this context, an Islamic chaple which has been a symbol of self-consciousness of the inhabitants since ancient times is being reinterpreted and taking an important part of intermediation in the process of continuance and rupture between authentic Islam and their regional tradition.

This study starts with a remark on the frequent usage of the term ‘generation culture’ in the explanations of cultural change. The term ‘generation culture’ itself does have neither a clear meaning nor any academic consensus for its operational definition yet. Depending on intuitions or common senses, in most cases, of everyday life experience, the tends to designate the co-existence of different cultural layers as composing subsystems of a little broader Korean cultural trend.I tried here to analyze different positions and perspectives in the employment of this term, sometimes with strategic intentions of each social groups. Economic or political positions, for example, are intertwined with the quest of identification concerning ‘we’ and ‘other’ grouping dynamics in the Age of Globalization, which accelerates the speed of cultural re-territorialization. And the role of consumption activity as a kind of cultural indication has gained more weight in that process. This analysis will remind us, also, of the post-modern society’s assumption about the space-and-time in transition, and its fluctuation.
