본 연구는 진지한 여가로서 캠핑활동 체험 내용을 규명하여 진지한 여가가 캠핑참여자에게 어떠한 의미를 가지는지를 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 질적 연구의 목적을 위해 유목적 표집법을 사용하여 10명의 캠퍼를 선정하였다. 자료의 수집은 총 4개월에 걸쳐 심층면담, 참여관찰, 관찰 기록지, 문헌자료를 통하여 이루어졌다. 수집된 자료는 전사 작업하여 텍스트자료로 변환하였으며, 의미의 범주화, 개념화의 분석과정을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 캠핑 참여자들의 진지한 여가의 체험 내용의 결과는 크게 신체적 체험, 사회적 체험, 심미적 체험으로 구분하였다. 신체적 체험은 건강함과 힘겨움으로, 사회적 체험은 가족애와 대인교류감으로, 심미적 체험은 치유감, 희열감, 자연동화감으로 세분화 되었다. 둘째, 캠핑 활동의 진지한 여가로의 변화는 크게 두 가지로 먼저 진지한 여가로의 노력은 개인적 노력과 더불어서 전문성 획득으로 세분화되었고, 다음으로 진지한 여가를 통한 삶의 의미화는 자아를 발견하고 긍정적 효과를 얻으며, 캠핑활동이 내 삶의 중요한 부분으로 자리잡고 있는 것으로 세분화 되었다. This study aimed to analyze meanings of serious leisure activities to camping participants via understanding an experience of camping activities as a serious leisure. To achieve the purpose of the qualitative research, 10 camper were selected by using purposeful sampling. Data collection was done over 4 months through in-depth interview, participant observation, observation mapping, and literature review. Upon collection, data were transcribed into text files and following conclusions were drawn via categorization of meanings as well as analysis of conceptualization. First, serious leisure experience of camping participants was categorized into 1) physical experience, 2) social experience, and 3) esthetic experience. The physical experience was further subdivided into healthiness and physical exhaustion while social experience was broken down into family affection and sense of interpersonal exchange. Lastly, esthetic experience was subdivided into senses of healing, joy, and natural assimilation. Second, changes of camping activities, as a serious leisure were examined in two respects. Firstly, efforts in serious leisure were subdivided into individual effort and acquisition of professionalism. Secondly, signifying of life through serous leisure was broken down into finding identity and achieving positive influence, and their settlement as an important part of life.
