This study was carried out to investigate the suitable timing of cutting and good quality of bed soil for the tea plant. for the bed soil, decomposition of granite soil, perlite, and vermiculite were mixed with upland soil. The mixed bed soil was treated either within box(48×37×8cm) or rock wool culture medium pot and the cut tea plant was grown in the vinyl green house without heat treatment. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The highest rates of healing tissue formation and rooting were observed from the mixed bed soil with perlite and vermiculite(26.3% and 14.9% for 1st year and 78.3% and 54.3% fro the 2nd year, respectively). In addition, yields were increased up to 26.3% and 14.9%, respectively, compare to those of decomposition of granite soil. 2. The single bed soil with perlite showed the highest rates of healing tissue formation and rooting(70.0% and 61.3%, respectively) but the single bed soil with vermiculite having lower water potential showed the lowest rates(57.8% and 39.8%, respectively) 3. After 1 year of cutting tea plant at 20th of June, the highest rates of healing tissue formation and rooting were observed(78.3% and 55.3%, respectively) but the lowest rates were observed at 20th of April. 4. A similar trends were also obtained after 2nd year of cutting(75.0% and 53.5%, respectively). The lower rates were observed when the cutting time was either earlier or later then these dates. 5. In terms of production cost of nursery tea plant(2,200/10a), the highest amount was observed from the mixed bed soil with decomposition of granite soil and vermiculite(1,075 won) but the lowest amount(940 won) was from the mixed bed soil with perlite and vermiculite. In conclusion, for the small scale of cut tea plant, either mixed bed soil with perlite and vermiculite(1:1) of single bed soil of perlite would be the best when they are transferred to cutting bed at around 20th of June. And our results recommend that it would be suitable to transfer into the cutting bed soil around 20th of August avoiding the high temperature and moisture in July if you have no choice.
