디지털 매체 예술에서 상호작용성과 창발성에 관한 연구 : 인공생명 알고리즘을 응용한 작품 중심으로

본 연구목적은 인공생명 알고리즘을 통해 생명이 있는 영상작품을 제작하는데 있다. 그리고 "인공생명을 이용한 영상작품이 갖는 의미는 무엇인가?"에 대한 고찰을 서술 해 보고자 하는데서 시작 하였다. 기존의 영상작품은 동일한 내용을 반복해서 보여주거나 제한된 상호작용성이 있다. 그러나 인공생명 알고리즘을 응용한 작품은 스스로 성장하고 소멸할 수 있다. 따라서 작품은 예측 불가능한 창발성(emergence)과 무한한 상호작용성(interactivity)을 갖게 된다. L-system은 자연계의 식물과 유사한 성장 규칙들을 만들어 낼 수 있다. 본 논문은 L-system을 응용하여 성장 하는 식물을 만들었다. 그리고 이것을 이용해 무한히 다르게 표현되어질 수 있는 영상작품(사군자)을 제작하였다. 두 번째 작품으로 세포자동자 알고리즘을 이용해서 수족관속의 인공생명을 창조하였다. 이 인공생명은 수족 관속의 먹이에 따라 다양한 형태로 진화를 하게 된다. 인공생명 알고리즘을 응용한 작품은 무한한 상호작용성 (interactivity)을 표현할 수 있다. 또한 작품이 스스로 예측 불가능한 창발성(emergence)을 나타낸다. 따라서 인공생명예술은 기존예술에 비해 무한한 상호작용성과 창발성을 가질 수 있다. The purpose of this study is at making a film work that has life using artificial life algorithm. and "What is the significance of film works using artificial life?" at the viewpoint of artificial life scholars that "The essence of life is information". The existing film works show same contents repeatedly or just have a limited interactivity. But the work applying artificial life algorithm is able to grow and become extinct by itself. Therefore the work gets to have unpredictable emergence and unlimited interactivity. L-system is able to make similar growth regulations with the plants of natural world. This thesis has made a growing plant applying L-system. And the film work (the Four Gracious Plants) that can be expressed unlimitedly in a different way produced using this system. The second work has created an artificial life inside the aquarium using cellular automation algorithm. This artificial life gets evolved into various forms depending on the food inside the aquarium. The works that have applied artificial life is able to express unlimited interactivity. Also the work shows an unpredictable emergence. Therefore the artificial life art can have unlimited interactivity and emergence compared to the existing art.
