브라질 중등과정 교과서 분석을 통한 한국에 관한 인식 연구

This study examines Brazil’s middle school curriculum textbooks to understand how Korea is perceived and identifies issues related to misinformation about Korea in the Brazilian public education system. Since the 2000s, as interest in Korean culture has increased, Korea’s image has become highly influential in Brazilian society, and this makes it essential to understand how Korea is represented in Brazilian educational materials. In this regard, the study conducted a quantitative analysis of Korea in 79 history and geography textbooks published between 2014 and 2021. The references to Korea were categorized into five domains, which are politics, economics, society & culture, history, and environment & geography. As a result, the analysis revealed instances where Korea’s identity was misrepresented or historical data was inaccurately presented. Given that middle school textbooks play a pivotal role in shaping adolescents’ identities and world views, it is crucial to address and correct these inaccuracies because they have the potential to embed negative perceptions about Korea in young learners. Furthermore, by rectifying these inaccuracies in textbooks, it is possible to enhance exact awareness and understanding of Korea and foster more effective public diplomacy between the two countries.

브라질 고등학교 사회과 교과서에 나타난 한국에 대한 인식 연구

본 연구는 브라질 공교육에서 사용되는 고등학교 사회과 교과서의 한국에 대한 정보를 토대로 올바르게 정보가 전달되고 있는지 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이에 따라 브라질 고등학교 사회과 교과서에서 한국에 대해 언급하고 있는 부분을 중점적으로 분석하여 문제점을 파악하고 이를 개선하기 위한 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 2015년에서 2021년 사이에 발간된 브라질 고등학교 사회과 교과의 역사·지리 교과서 45권을 대상으로 정량적·내용적 분석을 진행하였다. 본 연구는 정치, 경제, 사회·문화, 역사, 환경 및 지리의 다섯 가지 주요 분야에 걸쳐 진행되었다. 이 중 특히 역사 및 사회·문화 분야에서 한국에 대한 잘못된 정보가 다수 발견되었다. 이러한 정보의 오류는 청소년기에 학습되어 성인기까지 지속적인 영향을 미치게 되며, 이는 한국에 대한 인식과 이미지의 왜곡으로 이어질 위험이 크다. 따라서 교과서 속의 잘못된 정보를 바로잡는 것은 단순한 교육적 필요를 넘어 장기적인 관점에서 볼 때 매우 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 특히, 2000년대 이후 브라질 사회는 한류 열풍을 경험하고 있으며, 이는 한국에 대한 관심과 호감도를 높이는 계기가 되고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서, 한국에 대한 잘못된 정보를 정확하게 교정하는 작업은 단순히 오류를 수정하는 것을 넘어서 한국과 브라질 간의 양자 관계를 강화하고 한국의 글로벌 이미지를 제고하는데 크게 기여함과 동시에 한국과 브라질 양국의 문화적 이해와 상호 작용의 향상에 중요한 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of information about Korea presented in Brazilian high school textbooks within the public education system. The research specifically aims to identify and address inaccuracies in references to Korea in these textbooks and suggests areas for improvement. A thorough quantitative and content analysis was performed on 45 volumes of history and geography textbooks from the Brazilian high school curriculum, published between 2015 and 2021. The study organizes the content into five categories: ‘Politics’, ‘Economics’, ‘Society and Culture’, ‘History’, and ‘Environment and Geography’. It was observed that the sections on history and society and culture contained numerous inaccuracies about Korea. Given the long-lasting impact of adolescent learning on adult perceptions, these inaccuracies in textbooks could lead to distorted views of Korea. Furthermore, in the context of the increasing popularity of the Hallyu wave in Brazil since the 2000s, rectifying these inaccur- acies in textbooks is seen as an essential step in enhancing Korea's image and further developing the bilateral relationship between Korea and Brazil.
