한국어판 도덕기반사전 제작 및 활용 : 국내 5개 언론사 사설의 도덕기반 분석

본 연구는 도덕기반사전(moral foundations dictionary; Graham et al., 2009을) 영한번역해 한국어판 도덕기반사전을 제작함으로써, 도덕기반이론(moral foundations theory; Haidt, 2012)을 바탕으로 한국어 텍스트에 담겨 있는 도덕적 가치관을 분석하고자 하는 연구자들에게 기초적인 방법론적 도구를 제공하고자 했다. 본 논문은 크게 두 부분으로 구성된다. 먼저, 한국어판 도덕기반사전 및 그 제작과정을 소개했다. 연구자의 자의성을 최대한 배제한 상태에서 효율적으로 영한번역 작업을 수행하기 위해 채택한 반자동화된(semi-automated) 방식의 제작과정을 상세히 기술했다. 다음으로, 이렇게 만들어진 한국어판 도덕기반사전을 활용한 사례연구로, 국내 5개 종합일간지(<경향신문>, <동아일보>, <중앙일보>, <조선일보>, <한겨레>)에서 작성한 사설에 등장하는 도덕기반 관련 어휘를 분석했다. 먼저 해당 시기 사설 전체에 대한 분석을 수행한 후(사례연구1; N = 10,174), 이 중 도덕적 가치관과 관련도가 높은 세 가지 사회적•정치적 사안을 선정해 관련 사설들에 대한 추가 분석을 실시했다(사례연구 2; N = 848). 연구결과의 방법론적•이론적 함의를 논의했다. We developed a Korean version of the moral foundations dictionary (K-MFD) by translating the original moral foundations dictionary (MFD; Graham et al., 2009). Our goal in undertaking this endeavor was to provide a basic tool for researchers who seek to analyze moral language embedded in Korean texts. The paper consists of the following two parts. First, we provided a detailed description of how we developed the K-MFD, with a particular emphasis on the use of semi-automated methods to minimize subjectivity in conducting English-to-Korean translations. Then, the K-MFD was applied to analyze moral language usage in editorials published by five major newspapers in South Korea (Case Study 1; N = 10,174). Of these editorials, those that covered three morally charged socio-political issues were selected for additional analyses (Case Study 2; N = 848). Findings are discussed in light of their methodological and theoretical implications.
