This study was designed to verify the communication types of nursing students during clinical training in psychiatric wards. The Q-population on the communication on the nursing students was composed through the in-depth interviews with 9 nursing students and literature reviews, then 30 Q-sample were finally selected. 41 nursing students were selected as the P-sample and they did Q-sorting using PC-QUANL program the results were analysed. As a result of analysis, 5 types of communication types of nursing students were identified. The types are ‘Interchange type’, ‘Lack of confidence’, ‘Positive reception type’. ‘Avoid exchanges’, ‘Ambivalent’. The results of this study may suggest development of programs in which characteristics of communication of nursing students in clinical practice were considered and systemic support for Q-methodologic approach and education.
