The purpose of this study is to examine the problems and structural limitations where young girls are no longer interested in basketball, and to make suggestions on activation of girls basketball as well as expansion of the base. The number of girls participating in basketball at sports centers are much smaller than boys, and the number of girls wanting to become a professional basketball player is decreasing. This is not only a big impact on the future of Korean Women’s basketball, but also a crisis that can result in downward phenomenon in qualitative standard due to decrease in quantity. The reason behind such decrease is known as result of parents being skeptical and worried about the future of women’s basketball compared to the past. As to activate girls basketball, first, cultivation system for elite athletes must be prepared with the help of professionals, mutual cooperation of school sport and daily sport, and modified management. Second, education program based on age difference for basic skills and empirical teaching methods must be prepared under mutual cooperation and material support from WKBL and basketball organizations. They also need to find good coaches for girls basketball more actively. Third, change in awareness and environment that goes with gender equality of today that encourages active sport activity of girls is in need. That is, girls basketball activation must be prepared for girls to have dreams of becoming professional athletes as they continue their education, and also serve as an educational activity that can bring up girls who are strong and capable enough to manage the role of sportswoman.

Flavonoids from Morus alba fruits were evaluated for recovery effect on the damage of alloxan-induced pancreatic islet in zebrafish. Alloxan treatment on the zebrafish embryo surely decreased the pancreatic islet size (p <0.001). Rutin, isoquercetin, and quercetin very significantly recovered the size (p <0.001) and the fluorescence intensity of pancreatic islet.

The stem woods of Lindera obtusiloba Blume were extracted in 80% aqueous methanol and the concentrated extract was partitioned with ethyl acetate (EtOAc), butanol (n-BuOH), and H2O, successively. From the EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions, five compounds were isolated through the repeated silica gel, octadecyl silica gel, and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies. On the basis of spectroscopic data including mass spectrometry, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer, and two-dimensional-NMR gradient correlated spectroscopy (gCOSY), gradient heteronuclear single quantum correlation (gHSQC), gradient heteronuclear multiple bonding connectivity (gHMBC), the chemical structures of the compounds were determined as asarinin (1), (+)-catechin (2), (-)-epicatechin (3), hyperin (4), and nudiposide (5). Compounds 1 and 5 were isolated for the first time from the stem wood of L. obtusiloba Blume.

This study was initiated to search for the most effective method for extraction of anthocyanins from Morus alba Fruits using organic acids and to evaluate the stability of the pigments at various storage environments. The anthocyanins were effectively extracted by addition of organic acids such as citric acid, malic acid and fumaric acid. The anthocyanins were not degraded at 25℃ and under a fluorescent light with 183 lux, but sharply degraded at 60℃.
