Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of Tai Chi self-help program and Tai Chi exercise in patients with osteoarthritis. Methods: Quasi experimental design was utilized for the study to compare the effects after implementing tai chi self-help program and Tai Chi exercise for 6 weeks. The subjects of the study was osteoarthritis patients who visited to two Public Health Centers in Gyunggi-do from August to December, 2005. Total of 25 OA patients agreed to participate in the study, and 10 tai chi self-help program group and 9 Tai Chi exercise group were included for the final analysis after 6 weeks. Tai Chi self-help program was provided twice a week, 2 hours per session (one hour for tai chi exercise, one hour for self help program) for 6 weeks, and Tai Chi exercise group was provided once a week, 2 hours per session for 6 weeks. Outcome measures include flexibility, 6 m walking, and balance. Mann-Whitney U test of SPSS WIN 11.0 was utilized to compare the group differences. Results: The subjects of both program participants were not improved in their arm flexibility, and the difference was not significant. Tai chi self-help group improved more in their 6 m walking ability than Tai Chi exercise group, but the difference was not significant (F=.000, p>.05). Tai chi self-help group improved more in their balance than Tai Chi exercise group, but the difference was not significant (Rt: U=.24, p>.05; Lt: F=2.60, p>.05). Conclusion: The provision of both Tai Chi self-help program and Tai Chi exercise can lead improvement of 6 m walking, and balance, but the group difference was not significant. A rigorous research design should be further utilized to identify the potential benefits for this population.

Purpose : The purpose of this stuhy was to summarize trends and status of nursing research utilizing experimental designs in the Journal of Rheumatology Health over the past 10 years. Method : The Journal of Rheumatology Health published 37 experimental research articles between 1994 and 2004. These articles were included in a retrospective descriptive analysis. A checklist was utilized for data collection. Results : Quasi-experimental researches were more frequent than pre-experimental research, but there were 8 research studies which had no hypothesis. The most frequently used nursing interventions were exercise/movement, and cognitive, followed by sensitive, and social interventions. There were very few research studies that used random assignment for internal validity. The rate of effectiveness of self-help interventions was lower than socio-psychological, cognitive, or motor-physical interventions. There was no research regarding families of patients with rheumatoid disease. Conclusion : Rigorous experimental research design is needed for internal and external walidity in future research. Generalizing the effects of nursing interventions that are the results of rigorous experimental designs will contribute to promote the quality of life of patients with rheumatism and their families.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the nature the research trends of articles published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamentals of Nursing (JKAFN), Method: Comparison analysis between articles in JKAFN 〈Volume 13, Number 1-3〉 and articles in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 〈Volume 36, Number 1-3, 5-7〉 based on knowledge development classification was used to identify the nature of research trends in JKAFN. Results: Based on comparison with Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing, research trends in JKAFN were dominant; in personal knowledge in the pattern of knowing in nursing, in the desiderative focus in cognitive needs for nursing epistemology, in advancing of various aspects of nursing in the focus of knowledge, and practice domain in the domains for nursing. Conclusion: The major focuses on research trends in JKAFN were nursing practice, actions of nurses in practice and practice guideline applicable in nursing education.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the trend of research on the nursing research in the journal of rheumatology health and to suggest future perspective for nursing research. Method: In this study, we reviewed the contents of 131 researches published in this journal from its beginning year 1994 to year 2003. Result: In the 85.5% researches type of the research subjects was patient research that subject is patient' family was 67.2% experimental research was 26.7% qualitative research was 5.3% triangulation research was only one. In the experimental design types of nursing intervention were movement intervention 38.4% cognitive intervention 38.4% and true experimental research was none.
Among non-experimental researches 93.2% was survey method methodological research was two concept analysis research was two Q-method was one. Conclusion: There has been a lack of qualitative research true experimental research using vary nursing intervention. Further research need nursing intervention development that intervention can be use in actual nursing care area.

Purpose: Purpose: This study was undertaken to develop directions for research on nursing practice education and also for standardization of contents of Fundamental Nursing Practice (FNP) by identifying and analyzing the present content and inconsistency in FNP textbooks. Method: Eleven FNP textbooks published between 2007 and 2013 were selected and itemized nursing contents were compared and analyzed. Nursing professors and practicingnurses prioritized contents identified from an actual condition survey based on theoretical reason and clinical guides for each item. Results: Inconsistencies were found for 34 domains with 219 sub items and of them, 21 domains and 84 items needed to be standardized. Number of items that showed consistency between professors and nurses (ICC ≥ .800) was 29 (34.5%) and for complete consistency (ICC=1), 4 (4.8%). Number of items that showed inconsistency between the groups (ICC< .600) was 30 (35.7%) and very low consistency (ICC=0), 10 (11.9%). Conclusion: The results indicate a difference between understood validity of content by professors and by nurses and technical differences among FNP textbooks. Therefore confirmation of the items needing to be standardized and differences in understanding content by professors and by nurses shows a need for standardization of practice education between course and clinical practice. These results provide basic data for developing standardized form of FNP education.
