미국은 칠레의 아옌데 정권과 베네수엘라 차베스 정권의 기간산업 국유화 정책에 따른 다양한 압박정책을 시행하였다. 미국은 재정적 측면에서 두 국가에 대한 재정지원을 중단하거나, 미국 금융 시장 접근을 어렵게 하는 자체적 조치를 내렸다. 더 나아가, 국제 금융기구나 미국계 기업을 통한 직간접적 개입을 통해 두 국가의 경제적, 산업적 고립을 유도하였다. 한편, 칠레는 구리산업에 필요한 주요 부품과 예비 부품 조달에서, 베네수엘라는 석유의 생산과 정제과정에서 미국에 크게 의존하고 있었다. 미국은 산업에 대한 자체적 장비 및 기술이 부족했던 두 국가의 상황을 파악하고, 이에 개입하였다. 따라서 이를 통해 아옌데 시절의 칠레 구리산업이나 현 정권하의 베네수엘라 석유산업의 퇴조 원인에 미국의 압박정책이 큰 역할을 담당하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. The United States has implemented various pressure policies in accordance with Chile’s Allende and Venezuela’s Chavez regimes’ nationalization policies. In financial terms, the United States suspended funding the two countries or had taken measures to make it difficult for the two countries to access the United States financial market. Furthermore, through international financial institutions and American companies’ interventions, the United States induced the two countries to an economic and industrial isolation. Meanwhile, Chile and Venezuelan heavily relied on the United States in the procurement of major and spare parts in the copper industry and in process of production and refinement in the oil industry respectively. The United States identified and intervened in the situation of the two countries that lacked their own industrial equipment and technology. Therefore, it can be seen that the United States’ pressure policies played a large role in the cause of the declined Chilean copper industry during the Allende era and the Venezuelan oil industry under the current regime.
