Turbocharger in the application to a diesel engine was widely used in automobile industries for the improvement of engine performance. To comply with stringent emission standards, ball bearing turbocharger has been developed by applying new emission reduction technology. Up to date turbocharger has been proved as an essential part of diesel engines by demonstrating its improved engine performance, fuel efficiency and reduced emission as well. In this research, the performance of the ball bearing turbocharger was compared by the conventional journal bearing type turbocharger. The results shows that ball baring turbocharger was proved to be 10~13% higher fuel efficiency and 30% less average emission than journal bearing turbocharger.
대형디젤기관에서의 연속재생방식 DPF와 Cooled EGR 성능

The world is faced against the serious problems related to the increasing air pollutions. This research focused on the principle and the development of continuous regeneration DPF and cooled EGR technology which were the after-treatment technologies due to its superior comparability ad possible applicability. The test was done on an 8000cc heavy-duty turbo diesel engine on which continuous regeneration DPF was installed in order to investigate regeneration characteristics of DPF and cooled EGR and engine performance under several conditions of standard diesel or 50ppm ultra low sulfur diesel. Besides exhaust emissions, CO, HC and PM were tested under D-13 mode.

Emission regulations on greenhouse gas(GHG) in automobiles have been stringent because of global warming effect. Over 90% of total GHG emission are carbon dioxides and about 20% of this CO₂ emission are emitted from automobiles. In this study, 110 vehicles were tested on a chassis dynamometer and CO₂ emissions and fuel economy were measured in order to investigate the characteristics of CO₂ emission factor from passenger vehicles which are the most dominant vehicle type in Korea. The characteristics of emissions in accordance with displacements, gross vehicle weight, NIER and CVS-75 speed mode were discussed. It was found that vehicles having larger displacement, heavier gross vehicle weight, automatic transmission and specially at cold start emitted more CO₂ emissions. From these results, correlation between CO₂ emission and fuel economy was also obtained. This study may contribute to evaluate domestic greenhouse gas emissions and establish national policies on climate changes in future.
