Objective : 2014 Military Health Survey was performed to survey health behavior, mental health and medical care service utilization of soldiers on active duty. The finding from this study is expected to be the basis of future public health policy evaluations, and play an important role in the establishment of the Korean Military. Method : 3,131 of military officials and 4,100 of enlisted soldiers participated in this study. This study, a self-administered questionnaire, consisted of 24 categories of questions. Result : From observing military officials, current smoking rate was 44.8% (Male : 48.6%), high risk drinking rate was 26.8%, obesity rate was 32.3% and strenuous physical activity rate was 41.7%. Looking at enlisted soldiers, current smoking rate was 43.8%, obesity rate was 16.2% and strenuous physical activity rate was 59.5%. Military officials and enlisted soldiers had social support from their families. The rate of cognitive stress was 27.2% in military officials and 31.9% in enlisted soldiers. The rate of those who could not receive medical treatment was 41.2% in the field grade and 29.8% in the remote region. The main reason they could not receive treatment was that they had no time to visit, and that the waiting line was too long. Conclusion : The Military Health Survey needs to be maintained as the basis of evidence for the Military Public Health Policy, and be the foundation of the Health Index. Furthermore, we expect that the raw data from this study will be used actively by military health care personnels.

Objectives; To grasp contradiction of purpose of introduction of health insurance of active-duty soldiers and analyze operational problems after the introduction to develop policy for the soldiers' private hospital usage which coincides with the needs of the times and propose way of additional research. Methods; 988 active-duty soldiers from 4 Army divisions in Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do and rear area are subject of this study. Structured questionnaire is used to collect data. The collected data is inserted in Microsoft Excel and analyzed using SAS 9.4 Results; It is analyzed that level of soldiers' recognition about the fact that health insurance benefits are suspended and that MND bears public corporation share is very low. On the other hand, level of recognition about emergency leave for private hospital treatment is high. As a result of relevance analysis between private hospital use experience and demographic-sociological/military life features, the older(p<0.05) and the higher rank(p<0.001) soldiers are, private hospital use experience increases meaningfully. However, difference of the use experience according to family's monthly average income and educational level is non-significant statistically. As a result of relevance analysis between guarantee degree of emergency leave for treatment and demographic-sociological/military life features, the guarantee degree of soldiers in GOP regiment and battalion in forward division is higher than that of division in the rear area statistically(p<0.05). Also, the guarantee degree which soldiers in forward division in Gangwan-do feel were higher than that of other divisions(p<0.001). Conclusions; Health insurance of active-duty soldiers has been introduced on the premise that they can't use private hospital freely due to their military service and from the logic of that the state must be responsible for the soldiers' health. In the process of introduction, MND covers all the public corporation share. However, the people including active-duty soldiers don't fully understand about the role of MND and atmosphere that the soldiers use private hospital much more freely than in the past is being created recently. Thus, MND has to enhance public confidence through active promotion about the health insurance and make an effort to develop and introduce new system which coincides with the needs of the times at the same time.
