This paper deals with the harmonic distortion caused by using inverters for driving motors. Nowadays power conversion devices including inverter are widely used and harmonic problems are raised. Because of this phenomenon, harmonic reduction devices have been frequently used. We measured the current harmonics at input terminals of inverter with filters such as EMC filter and reactor. As a consequence, it was found that reactors are effective but EMC filters are rarely effective in reduction of current harmonics.

The study to unify technical terms in standards and regulations for grounding and lightning protection systems shall be carried out in-depth widely and is very urgent and important issues related to advances in technology and economic interests. Technical terms are successively creating and gradually increasing by diversity and external environments. Unified technical terms enable us to respond quickly and effectively to International Technology Disputes and Trade Market. Of course, it will be able to contribute to an increase in exports in the near future Therefore, in this paper, we propose new scheme and systems to unify technical terms related to KS standards and regulations for grounding and lightning protection systems.

In the recent year the works to study the appropriate measures in application of KS C IEC 60364 standard in domestic electrical installations are successively carried out. In this paper, generally accepted two methods of estimating the cross-sectional area of protective conductor in TN systems which are the most frequently used grounding systems in low-voltage(LV) power systems are examined from technical and economical standpoints. Consequently, it is confirmed that the technical and economical efficiencies are both favored when residual current operated circuit-breakers with integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses(RCBOs) are applied as a protective device against short-circuit and ground faults. The conclusion obtained from this work could be a good reference in the design of LV power systems for different areas of electrical installations such as office buildings, computer centers, apartment houses, power plants, and etc.

This paper deals with frequency-dependent circuit parameters of metal conduits. The use of nonmagnetic conduit should be taken into account in order to reduce the inductance of battery charger distribution circuits. The frequency-dependent impedance of steel and aluminium conduits and switching surge voltages generated at the circuit consisted of steel and aluminium conduits were investigated. As a result, the switching surge voltages generated through Al conduit are significantly lower than those through steel conduit when DC fault current is interrupted.

In this paper, in order to analyze lightning impulse response characteristics in combined installations of SPDs and RCDs, surge protection coordination between SPDs and RCDs are experimentally investigated by using the combination wave generator. Six different types of single-phase residual current operated circuit-breakers with integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses(RCBOs) being present on the domestic market are tested according to KS C IEC 61009-1 standard. As a result, when a class I SPD is located on the source side of an RCBO, all kinds of specimens are able to provide the proper coordination between the SPD and RCBOs without nuisance tripping, unintended operation or damage due to test impulse currents. However, in the case that the class II SPD is located on the load side of RCBOs, a lot of L-N mode injected currents is split into the RCBO, and a few RCBOs are damaged. Coordination between SPDs and RCDs is not valid and a role of SPDs is of no use. When combining SPDs with RCDs, it is necessary to select SPDs and RCDs in consideration of the protection voltage level of metal oxide varistor embedded in RCDs.
