사용빈도에 기반한 스마트폰의 문장부호 및 특수문자 입력 레이아웃의 개선

최근 스마트폰의 사용 빈도가 높아짐에 따라 터치스크린을 통한 텍스트 입력 작업 또한 빈번하게 되었다. 그러나 스마트폰의 터치스크린은 기존의 물리적인 입력 디바이스들과 달리 상대적으로 큰 제한점들을 가지고 있다. 이로 인해 사용자들은 문자를 입력하는 과정에서 빈번한 오류를 범하게 되었다. 특히 스마트폰 기종마다 동일한 구조를 갖는 한글, 영문 텍스트보다 문장부호나 특수문자의 입력에서 오류가 자주 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해 문장부호 및 특수문자가 더 효율적이고 정확하게 입력되려면 텍스트 레이아웃이 어떠한 구조를 가져야 하는지에 대해 연구하였다. 설문조사를 통해 스마트폰 사용자들의 기호 사용 패턴을 조사하여, 문장부호 및 특수문자의 사용빈도 자료를 획득하였다. 더불어 입력 레이아웃을 몇 가지 세부 영역으로 구분하여 각 영역에서 CPS(초당 문자 입력 수)를 구하여 가장 입력속도가 높은 영역이 어디인지를 지정한 다음, 이에 배치하여야 하는 기호들은 어떤 것들인지를 파악하였다. 본 연구에서 재구성한 대안적 레이아웃과 기존 제품의 레이아웃을 CPS를 비교분석하면서 사용성을 높일 수 있는 입력 레이아웃을 제안하였다. Recent popularity of smartphones resulted in frequent use of touchscreen for text input. However, touch-based input has a number of limitations compared with previously used physical input methods. As a result, users tend to make more errors when they enter text using those devices which adopt more advanced technology. In particular, more errors appear to occur when people enter punctuation marks and special characters compared with Korean/English characters which has similar layout across different smartphones. In order to address this issue in this research, we investigated how the input layout has to be arranged in order to support more efficient and accurate input of punctuation marks and special characters. Using survey of smartphone users’text input pattern, we obtained frequency data of punctuation marks and special characters. Then we divided input layout into three areas in which each area has different CPS(input per second) in order to assign different marks and characters based on their frequency. We propose an alternative input layout while comparing previous vs. our newly designed input layout in this research.
