N/A Mycoplasma pneumonia is a major cause of respiratory infections in school-aged children & young adults. The incidence of illness varies greatly with the age of the patient k the epidemic of organism. A retrospective analysis of 494 patients with Mycoplasma pneumonia who admitted to department of Pediatrics of Korea University Hospital at Anam & Guro from January, 1985 to December, 1993, was perfomed . The results are 1) The epidemics have occurred at 3 year intervals(1987,1990,1993). 2) Male to female ratio was 1:1.106. 3) Age distribution showed the major peak in 5 to 9 years of age and the minor peak in 2 to 3 years of age. 4) Monthly distribution showed the outbreak on November , September, April, in orders. 5) On chest X-ray examination, 75.49o showed the positive findings. Above all , right lower lobe involvement was the most common. (49.4Fo)

The chemical components (e.g., proximate composition, nucleotide-related compounds, and amino-acid content) of raw, dried, and boiled giant squids were investigated. The moisture contents of raw, dried, and boiled giant squids were 75.65, 39.75, and 41.12%, respectively. The boiled giant squid had a higher moisture content than the dried giant squid. The crude protein contents of raw, dried, and boiled giant squids were 20.10, 56.25, and 49.58%, respectively, with that of the dried giant squid higher than that of the boiled giant squid. The crude lipid contents of the raw, dried, and boiled giant squids were 0.15, 0.57, and 1.35%, respectively, with the boiled giant squid having the highest crude lipid content. The crude ash content of raw, dried, and boiled giant squids were 1.68, 4.50, and 6.77%, respectively. IMP content was detected in the dried (1.21 mg/100 g) and boiled(0.25 mg/100 g) giant squids. In the sensory scores, the degree of bitterness, acidity, and aftertaste had lower values in the dried and boiled giant squids than in the raw giant squid. A total of 18 amino acids were detected in the samples, and most of the samples had high contents of glutamic acid, aspartic acid, proline, and arginine and low contents of histidine, tyrosine, and methionine. The free-amino-acid content was related to the taste component. The major free amino acid contained by the samples were hydroxyproline, alanine, arginine.

For developing calcium supplement from the harmful marine organism starfish, the physiochemical property of the powdered starfish skeletal plate and the hydrolysis condition of the starfish digestive enzyme were studied. The optimal hydrolysis condition of the starfish digestive enzymes was at 55℃ for 12 h. The bulk densities of the powdered starfish skeletal plates of Asterias amurensis and Asterina pectinifera were 1.1±0.0 and 1.2±0.0 g/cm3, respectively. As for the median size, the values were 10.738 and 11.799 μm, respectively. According to the added concentration of sodium polyacrylate, the dispersibility rate of the powdered starfish skeletal plate was shown to be 6h at 0.0%, 3 days at 0.1%, 20 days at 0.2%, and until 30 days at 0.4%. The elementary composition of the powdered starfish skeletal plates from A. amurensis and A. pectinifera mainly consisted of calcium, and it formed 98.95 and 98.52% of the powdered starfish skeletal plates, respectively. The results of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that they were present in the form of CaCO3. Based on these results, it is suggested that starfish skeletal plate can be utilized as a functional material for a calcium supplement.
