It goes without saying that a new 'ism' or an ideology comes into existence in answer to the needs of a society or a historical necessity. And such 'ism' or ideology can have various effects on the social, political and cultural movements as well as on the way of thinking at a given time. Throughout the human history, feminism is said to be one of the most revolutionary ' -ism', and it may continue to be exist so long as there is any type of sexual discriminations in our society. Nowadays, as an outlook on the world based on the concept of 'gender', and as an effort to get rid of sexual difference and to respect for woman as a human being, feminism is creeping into the field of nursing. Maybe we cannot disregard its influence on that field because the nursing is occupied mainly by women. The ideas of caring and nurturing in the nursing can be connected with the idea of womanhood which is deeply rooted in the existing man-oriented ideology. In this respect, the relation of feminism and nursing can be viewed as 'an uneasy alliance' in that feminism is directed toward an equality of sexes and an avoidance of the idea, womanhood', fixed on men's minds. In short, it is a general thinking that feminism can exercise a negative effect on nursing service. However, there is a new trend in feminism, which acknowledges the difference of sexes and regard the difference as a factor contributing to the development of a society, and support female's moral by emphasizing an ethics of caring. This feminism can be in accord with nursing because both emphasize the concept of caring. And it should be noted that this harmony of feminism and nursing is helpful to the advancement of female's position and to the development of nursing professions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of quality of life in colorectal cancer patient with colostomy. The predictors of quality of life were the subject's general·disease characteristics and personal resources. Method: 62 colorectal cancer outpatients with colostomy who visited in hospital participated in the study. The data were analysed with descriptive analysis, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Result: The score of quality of life in colorectal cancer patients with colostomy was 47.92 point. There was a statistically significant difference between quality of life and ostomy management education, depression. Depression was anticipated variable on the patient's quality of life(adjusted R^(2)=.2492). Conclusion: Based on the finding of this study, development of nursing intervention program including reduction of depression can be suggested.

초심상담자가 지각한 내담자 저항에 관한 해석학적 현상학 연구

This study used van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenological approach to examine the essence of client resistance perceived by novice counselors. The novice counselors interviewed for the study were master’s students or higher with training experience who were currently conducting counseling more than once a week. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 novice counselors who perceived client resistance within 6 months. The essence was “A world I was not willing to enter and stay”, “A professional self under pressure”, “A three-legged race with poor teamwork”, “A hint in the problem”, “A fallen place as a stepping stone for growth”. The essence of client resistance perceived by novice counselors was the client’s subjective world that the counselors did not understand, counseling focused on the goal of counseling rather than understanding the client, and a weakened belief in partnership. Beyond that, it was a signal for the client to inform the counselors, as well as a stepping stone for the client’s growth and the counselors’ learning. This study can help to facilitate discussion about novice counselors’ attitudes in the face of perceived client resistance, and can be used as basic data for novice counselor education and development. 본 연구는 초심상담자가 지각한 내담자 저항의 본질에 대해 알아보았다. 이를 위해 van Manen의 해석학적 현상학 연구방법을 사용했다. 석사 재학 이상이고 수련 경험이 있는 초심상담자 중 현재 일주일에 1회 이상 상담을 진행하고 있으며 6개월 이내에 내담자의 저항을 지각한 초심상담자 10명과의 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석했다. 본질은 ‘기꺼이 들어가 머물지 못한 세계’, ‘중압감을 느끼는 전문가적 자아’, ‘호흡이 맞지 않는 이인삼각(二人三脚)’, ‘문제 속의 힌트’, ‘넘어진 자리가 성장의 발판’으로 나타났다. 초심상담자가 지각한 내담자 저항의 본질은 상담자가 헤아리지 못한 내담자의 주관적 세계, 내담자 이해보다 상담 목표에 몰두한 상담 수행, 협력관계에 대해 약해지는 믿음이었다. 또, 이를 넘어 내담자가 상담자에게 알리는 신호이자 내담자의 성장과 상담자의 배움의 발판이었다. 본 연구는 내담자의 저항에 필요한 초심상담자의 태도에 대해 논의해 추후 초심상담자 교육 및 발달의 기초자료로 쓰일 수 있다.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of Guided Imagery on the stress and anxiety of nursing students in clinical practice. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected from the 20th of June to the 11th of July 2003. The objects of this study were 32 nursing students of college(16 for the experimental group, 16 for the control group). The instruments used in this study were State Trait Anxiety Inventory, the stress scale developed by Choi(1991). The guided imagery was provided through audiotapes to the subjects for 8 minutes, a time for 5 days. The pretest was given before the therapy to measure variables for both groups and the posttest was performed after intervention. The data were analyzed by the SAS program using t-test. Result: The results of this study are as follows. The stress scores of students were decreased in the experimental group, but were not significantly different between the experimental group and the control group after the guided imagery. The anxiety scores of students were significantly different between the experimental group and the control group after the guided imagery. Conclusion: The guided imagery can be suggested as an effective nursing intervention to reduce the anxiety. Further studies to identify the effects of stress reduction according to the frequency of the guided imagery can be needed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors of job stress in hospital nurses. The predictors of job stress were the subject`s general characteristics, communication style, critical thinking disposition and job satisfaction. Methods: 294 nurses who had worked in a hospital participated in this study. The data were analysed with descriptive analysis methods including a t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe? test, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: The job stress score for nurses was 111.6. There was a statistically significant difference between job stress and marriage status (p<.001), education (p<.001), clinical career (p<.001), position (p<.001), communication style (p<.001), critical thinking disposition (p<.001), and job satisfaction (p<.001). Critical thinking disposition, job satisfaction and clinical career together accounted for 36.88% of the total variation in job stress. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, the development of a nursing intervention program that can lead to an improvement in critical thinking disposition is suggested.
