Purpose: We are to know the distribution of the axial lengths and functional equators in strabismus patients and to establish surgical formula considering axial lengths in addition to the preoperative deviation angle. Methods: Included were 100 eyes of 50 strabismus children under 12 years old who do not have other organic disorders and received strabismus surgery under general anesthesia. We measured axial lengths and calculated functional equators. Results: Mean value of axial length was 22.01±0.97 mm. The distances from limbus to the functional equators of medial and lateral rectus muscles were 11.35±0.67 mm and 18.48±0.94 mm each and direct distance for that were 10.86±0.62 mm and 16.40±0.79 mm. Conclusions: By the conventional amount of both medial rectus muscle recession in esotropia patient, the recession for the preoperative deviation angle of 40 prism diopter locates medial rectus muscle at the functional equator. So taking both axial length and preoperative deviation angle into account, we proposed new surgical formula for esotropia as follows. For the preoperative deviation angle of 40 prism diopter, we are to recess both medial rectus muscles to the functional equator calculated by axial length and for the preoperative deviation angle smaller or larger than 40 prism diopter, recess to the site anterior or posterior to the functional equator proportionally.
이종 섬유 혼입비에 따른 섬유보강 콘크리트의 휨 인성 및 휨 인장강도에 관한 연구

최근 새로운 형태의 폴리올레핀 섬유에 대하여 성능향상 개발이 이루어지고 있으며, 기존 섬유와 혼입하여 사용하거나 폴리올레핀 섬유만을 사용한 콘크리트 특성에 대하여 연구와 검증이 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 강섬유와 폴리올레핀 섬유를 사용한 콘크리트의 휨 인성 및 휨 인장강도에 대한 성능을 확인하기 위하여 324개의 보 시편을 제작하고, KS F2566과 ASTM C 1399-02규격에서 제시한 4점 휨 실험을 수행하여 휨 인성지수, 등가 휨 인장강도, 평균잔류강도를 분석하였다. 실험결과, 섬유 혼입률, 섬유 형상비에 대한 휨 인성 및 인장강도에 대한 효과가 확인되었으며, 강섬유와 폴리올레핀의 최적의 혼입비율을 제시하였다. Recently, a new type of polyolefin fiber having a good mechanical properties is being developed, and it is necessary to examine a possibility for the new fiber together to be used as a reinforcing fiber with other types of fiber or by itself. The objective of this study is to find flexural toughness and tensile strength of concrete reinforced with steel and polyolefin fibers. Four point beam tests were performed with 324 specimens following two standard tests methods: KS F 2566 and ASTM C 1399-02. From the test results, the effects of volume fraction of fibers, and aspect ratio of steel fiber on the toughness and tensile strength were investigated, and the optimal ratio of steel fiber to polyolefin fiber was suggested.

The need for strengthening reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures is becoming more apparent, particularly when there is an increase in load requirements, a change in use, a degradation problem, or some design and construction defects. Potential solutions range from replacement of the structure to strengthening with a variety of techniques. Bonded plate is one of them and advanced composites, such as Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP), are just one type of material that can be used in this respect Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete structures with externally bonded FRP sheet is effective method for improving structural performance under service and ultimate load conditions. Also, it has been shown that externally bonded FRP sheet reduces stress and deflections. The purpose of this study is to develop a design program using Visual Basic language according to strength design method which obtain preliminary area of FRP and analysis of serviceability.
코경유 눈물주머니코안연결술시 히알루론산나트륨과 카르복시메틸셀룰로오스나트륨 혼합액 사용의 임상적 효과

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of a mixed solution of sodium hyaluronate and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (HACMC, Guardix-sol®) for reducing postoperative adhesion after endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy. Methods: Endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy was performed on 58 patients with obstructions of the nasolacrimal system. We divided the 58 patients into two groups. At the completion of endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy, HACMC was applied to the operative site in the experimental group (n=26) and normal saline was applied in the control group (n=32). For the evaluation of clinical effectsand postoperative adhesion, subjective symptom score evaluations, lacrimal irrigation tests, fluorescein disappearance tests, and endoscopic examinations were performed at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Results: The HACMC-treated patients showed better results than the control patients for subjective symptom scores, lacrimal irrigation tests, and fluorescein disappearance tests, but these differences were not statistically significant. Upon endoscopic examination, the HACMC group revealed lower incidence of adhesion at 1 week after surgery and lower severity of adhesion throughout the period of observation (p<0.05). Conclusions: The application of a mixed solution of HACMC may effectively reduce postoperative adhesion after endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2010;51(6):795-801

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the changes in tear film and ocular surface after dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) in patients with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Methods: Forty subjects who showed successful results at three months after endoscopic DCR were investigated. The changes in tear breakup time (BUT), basal secretion test (BST), corneal sensitivity test (CST), tear clearance rate (TCR) and keratoepitheliopathy (KEP) were evaluated. Results: The mean age was 57.4±13.2 years (29~77 years). Preoperative BST and BUT in eyes which underwent DCR were 13.21±3.79 mm and 8.20±2.30 seconds, respectively. Three months after the operation, the respective values were 9.13±3.77 mm (p=0.01) and 6.27±2.20 seconds (p=0.03). Preoperative CST, TCR and KEP in eyes which underwent DCR were 57.89±4.18 mm, 3.26±0.91 and 0.12±0.53, respectively. Three months after the operation, the respective values were 57.75±3.55 mm (p=0.32), 3.04±0.87 (p=0.08) and 0.13±0.54 (p=0.08). No changes were observed between the preoperative and postoperative tear parameters in fellow eyes. Conclusions: The changes in tear film parameters including BST and BUT should be considered in patients who receive endoscopic DCR. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2010;51(5):637-641

Purpose: To compare the postoperative outcomes between Akreos MI60 and Akreos AO intraocular lens (IOLs) after cataract surgery. Methods: A prospective analysis among 55 eyes of 55 patients who had undergone microcoaxial phacoemulsification and implantation of aspheric IOLs (Akreos MI60, 30 eyes; Akreos Adapt-AO, 25 eyes) was performed. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spherical equivalent, intraocular pressure (IOP), corneal thickness, endothelial cell density (ECD), surgically induced astigmatism (SIA), predictability of postoperative spherical equivalent, higher order aberrations, and contrast sensitivity test were evaluated during the follow-up period of 3 months. Results: There were no significant differences in BCVA, spherical equivalent, IOP, corneal thickness, ECD, SIA, higher order aberrations and contrast sensitivity test (p>0.05). The predictability of postoperative spherical equivalent in the Akreos Adapt- AO (-0.57±0.22D) represented statistically significant myopic shift compared with the Akreos MI60 group (-0.05±0.69D) (p=0.02). Conclusions: Both the Akreos MI60 and the Akreos Adapt-AO implantation groups performed similiarly, following cataract surgery, showed similar visual function. Purpose: To compare the visual function and postoperative refraction between two aspheric intraocular lenses (IOLs) after microcoaxial cataract surgery. Methods: A prospective analysis of 60 eyes of 58 patients who had undergone microcoaxial phacoemulsification and implantation of aspheric IOLs (AcrySof IQ, 30 eyes; Akreos MI60, 30 eyes) was performed. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spherical equivalent, intraocular pressure (IOP), corneal thickness, endothelial cell density (ECD), predictability of postoperative spherical equivalent, higher order aberrations, contrast sensitivity test, satisfaction, and glare were evaluated during the follow-up period of three months. Results: There were no significant differences in BCVA, spherical equivalent, IOP, corneal thickness, or ECD (p>0.05). The predictability of the postoperative spherical equivalent in the AcrySof IQ and Akreos MI60 IOL groups was not significantly different (p=0.59), and the two groups showed good anterior-posterior stability during the postoperative three months. There were no significant differences in higher order aberrations, contrast sensitivity test, satisfaction or glare (p>0.05). Conclusions: Both AcrySof IQ and Akreos MI60 implantation groups showed similar visual functions and postoperative spherical equivalents after microcoaxial cataract surgery.
