Recently a double decker bus service has been considered to solve the heavy traffic problem for rush hour by Kyeonggi Provincial Government. For a double decker, the height to width ratio is over 1.16 times bigger than the general high-speed single decker bus and C.G point of the model double decker bus is higher than the general bus. It could be a serious reason for the driving stability problem of a double decker vehicle such as turn-over and breakaway the lane especially under the strong side-wind condition at high-speed running. In this numerical study, the driving characteristics of the model double decker bus has been reviewed under the side-wind condition and superelevation condition at high driving speed. With CFD numerical simulation technique, the rolling, pitching and yawing moment of the model bus was calculated and compared the results to the recovery angular moments of the model bus to evaluate the dynamic stability of the bus at the given driving condition on a road. From the study, it was found that as the model vehicle moves through a straight level road, the model bus is under the stable condition at any side-wind condition. However, as the bus moves through the curved road under the side-wind condition, it could reach to the unstable condition dynamically. When the bus moves through a curved road that the radius of gyration is less than 100m under side-wind (15㎧), there is a chance of turn over of the bus. However, there is a rear chance of the breakaway of lane by the model bus at any driving conditions.
