Global warming impacts every corner of human life. Maritime transportation and shipbuilding industries are no exception. Recent counteraction in maritime industries is accelerating to meet the zero emission by 2050. Various alternative energy sources have been studied, and recent developments in Europe show that the windship, as a proven technology, can be an attractive candidate to solve the problem. In this paper, as the alternative transportation option, to infer the performances of modern windships, the non-dimensional ratios of past tall ships and windships are studied and reviewed. In addition, the ratios are compared to estimate the position of current and future windships under consideration. It is found that regarding the ratio distributions, the current windships being planned can be either wind-assisted propulsion ships or less fully functional windships than the past tall ships.

The precipitates, hardness, and tensile properties of Al-6.2Si-2.9Cu AC2B alloy were investigated with respect to solution treatment time at 500℃. Al(Cu)-Al2Cu eutectic, Si, θ-(Al2Cu), and Q-(Al5Cu2Mg8Si6) phases were observed in the as-cast specimen. With increasing the solution treatment time at 500℃, the Al(Cu)-Al2Cu eutectic and θ-(Al2Cu) phases were gradually reduced and finally almost disappeared in 5 h. The mechanical properties, such as hardness, tensile strength, and elongation, were improved with solution treatment time until about 5 h due to the dissolution of the Al2Cu particles. With further holding time, the mechanical properties did not change much. The solution treated specimens for over 5 h at 500℃ exhibit almost the same tensile properties even after aging at 250℃ for 3.5 h. Accordingly, the optimal solution treatment condition of the Al-Si-Cu AC2B alloy is considered to be 5 h at 500℃.

DMWs are common feature of the PWR in the welded connections between carbon steel and stainless steel piping. The nickel-based weld metal, Alloy 82/182, is used for welding the dissimilar metals and is known to be susceptible to PWSCC. A round-robin program has been implemented to benchmark the numerical simulation of the transient temperature and weld residual stresses in the DMWs. To solve the round-robin problem related to Pressurizer Safety & Relief nozzle, the thermal elasto-plastic analysis is performed in the DMW by using the FEM. The welding includes both the DMW of the nozzle to safe-end and the SMW of the safe-end and piping. Major results of the analyses are discussed: The axial and circumferential residual stresses are found to be -88㎫(225㎫) and -38㎫(293㎫) on the inner surface of the DMW; where the values in parenthesis are the residual stresses after the DMW. Thermo-mechanical interaction by the SMW has a significant effect on the residual stress fields in the DMW.

This paper provides simulational round robin test results for welding residual stress prediction of safety/relief nozzle. To quantify the welding variables and define the recommendation for prediction and determination of welding residual stress, 6 partners in 5 institutes participated in round robin test. It is concluded that compressive axial and hoop residual stress occurs in dissimilar metal weld and pre-existing residual stress distribution in dissimilar metal weld was affected by similar metal weld due to short length of safe end. Although the reason for the deviation among the results was not pursued further, the effect of several key elements of FE analyses on welding residual stress was investigated in this paper.

In this paper, results of simulational round robin test on residual stress prediction was provided. Welding residual stress is one of the reasons for primary water stress corrosion cracking in PWR. Therefore, quantifying the welding variables and defining the recommendation for prediction welding residual stress is important. Through the round robin test, it is known that compressive axial and hoop residual stress occurs in dissimilar metal weld and pre-existing residual stress distribution in dissimilar metal weld was affected by similar metal weld due to short length of safe end.
Sol-Gel법에 의한 Stainless Steel의 알루미나 코팅

The 304-stainless steel was coated with alumina by the sol-gel dipping method for improving its high temperature oxidation resistance. Effects of the preparative condition of clear alumina sols, the surface treatment of metals, and the addition of chemical additives on properties of clear sol-gels and coated films were investigated, and then the applicability of the sol-gel dipping method was examined. The clear alumina sol for the effective coating could be prepared when adding 0.14 mole nitric acid as a peptization agent per 1 mole of Al-secbutoxide. The surface treatment by sand blasting and the addition of 0.14∼0.28cc glycerol per 20cc of the alumina sol were optimized to improve the spreading of sols on the metal surface and to minimize cracking in dried gels and films, respectively. The stainless steel surface coated with alumina showed good oxidation resistance up to 1100℃, but spalling was observed over 1220℃ at which the single phase of α-alumina existed.
