The content of micro inorganic compounds in the 145 kinds of crude drugs on market was determined with Model 207 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and Model 306 Flameless A.A. Content of Fe, Cu, Ni, Mn, Cd, Cr, Sn, and Pb was examined and the results revealed that the crude drugs which are using as a hematics and emmenagogues contained high content of iron, and those which are using as a antiinflammatory and emmenagogues contained high content of copper. Aromatic stomachies contain manganese and zinc, and diuretics and antiinaflmmatory agents do tin. High content of Ni was found in tonics, but chronium and cadmium were not detected in crude drugs. There were no differences of content of trace metals in the various site of plants used.

A rapid determination of mannitol in crude drugs by the use of high pressure liquid chromatography is described. Mannitol is separated by a column of Aminex, using liquid chromatography of waters with H₂O as the eluent solution and the separationis completed within thirty minutes. Mannitol dissolves in water and the aquous extract is injected into the column and the content of mannitol was calculated from the calibration curve previously prepared using a standard.

11 Market herbal drugs, registerated to K.P. 111 were studied for classification of fungi and aflatoxin-productivity. Aspergillus spp. were identified by method of Raper and Fennell, Penicillium by method of Raper and Thom, Imperfect fungi by method of Barnett and Hunter. Aflatoxin-productivity was analyzed by method of Shotwell. The results were as follows; (1) Initially contaminated fungi were Aspergillus group(63.52%) and Penicillium (22.55%) and the other fungi were contaminated somewhat. Victics Rotundifoliae Fructus and Schizandrae Fructus were the herbal drugs from which fungi were isolated most frequently. Phelloptori Radix was found to be only slightly isolated and was not isolated with Aspergillus and Penicillium. (2) Among Aspergillus group were isolated from herbal drugs, the most frequent fungi were A. fumigatus and A. flavus, and A. nigar was frequently isolated. (3) In the productivity of aflatoxin from 3 strains of A. parasiticus were isolated from 3 herbal drugs and 20 strains of A. flavus were isolated from g herbal drugs, none was produced aflatoxin.

Sugar beet represents the root of Beta vulgaris L. var. rapa DUMORT. of the family, Chenopodiaceae. Sugar beet has been generally cultivated in the northern temperate region, but in our country, there has been seen no production of sugar from the cultivated beet so far We obtained the seeds of sugar beet from Canada and began to cultivate them in our N.I.H. Medicinal Plant Garden from April, 1969. We found such successful 90% germination, where with in October obtained 1㎏ root per stub which contained 16∼20% of sugar.

The cultivation of Italian liquorice root was carried out and the three-year-old roots of average wet weight 800g were harvested. In early April the cut root was transplanted and the rate of survival was 50∼60%. The treatment of it with dilute Atonic solution increased the rate to 96%. The glycyrrhizin content in the root was: five-year-old root 7%, four-year-old 7.5%, three-year-old 6.7%, and two-year-old 4.7%.
일황련의 시험재배와 Berberine 함량에 관한 연구

In oriental medicine, Coptis japonica MAKINO (Ranunculaceae) has been known as bitter stomachics. This plant originally grows wild and has been cultivated in Japan but not in Korea. However, a few years ago, some workers have been trying to cultivate this plant in Korea and have made much progresses. Therefore, this study was made for the purpose of conforming possibility in cultivation of Copits japonica MAKINO in Korea. The results were as follows: 1) Berberine contents of rhizomes are much more than of K.P.. Difference in contents between Eu Jeon Bu (4.88±0.77%) and Bo Seong area (3.62±0.50%) is significant (p<0.05). 2) Berberine contents of fibrous roots of Eu Jeong Bu (0.97±0.28%) area was similar to that of Gang Nam (0.93±0.21%), Yang Pyung area(0.91±0.14%) but only contents of Bo Seong area (0.74±0.25%) is less than that of other area and it`s difference is not significant. 3) It was considered that the cultivation of Coptis japonica MAKINO in Korea is possible considering the cultivation results and berberine contents, and also more moderate than south region.

생약제는 천연물로서 생산과정, 저장 조건 등에 의하여 진균의 오염이 가능하며 품질관리 및 국민보건상 문제가 될 수 있다. 이에 따라 본연자들은 대한 약전수재 생약 21종을 취하여 진균의 분류 및 aflatoxin 생성유무를 검색할 목적으로 연구하였으며 현미경상에 목측하여 Raper and Fennell, 小田, 坂口의 방법에 의해 동정하였으며 Showell 방법에 준하여 aflatoxin analysis를 한 바 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) 본 실험에서 광범위하게 분리된 진균은 Aspergillus group과 Penicillium이었으며 전체의 88.5%를 차지하였다. 또한 Mucor, Rhizopus, Alternaria sp., Fusalium sp. 등이 약간 분리되었다. 2) Aspergillus group이 가장 많이 분리된 생약은 후수였으며 Penicillium이 가장 많이 분리된 생약은 천궁이었다. 3) Aspergillus group과 Penicillium이 전혀 분리되지 않은 생약은 황련이었으며 겨자에서는 Aspergillus group이 계피, 길경, 건강에서는 Penicillium이 분리되지 않았다. 4) Aflatoxin 생성가능균주인 Aspergillus flavus는 10종의 생약에서 분리되었으며 Aspergillus parasiticus는 감초, 황백에서만 분리되었다. 5) Ochratoxin 생성가능균주인 Aspergillusochraceus는 황금에서만 분리되었으며 fusariogenin 생성가능균주인 fusarium nivale은 천궁과 비자에서만 분리되었다. 6) 공시 생약에서 분리한 Aspergillus flavus 22주, Aspergillus parasiticus 2주를 random sampling하여 aflatoxin분리 실험하였던 바 aflatoxin을 분리할 수가 없었다.
