Pedestrian protection has recently drawn great interest for research and development. Especially, active pedestrian protection is described from a system perspective. Active pedestrian protection system is able to be divided into two parts. The first part is the sensor system, which is placed in the bumper of the car to give an early indication that an impact is occurring. The second part of the protection system comprises active hood lift system involved in two actuators or hood airbag system. In this paper, we report acceleration sensor technologies which provide the response for the impact of pedestrian and the crash detection.
Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis of 2WCS

MOBIS has developed the world’s first a new generation WCS using only 2 weight sensors called 2WCS Gen2.0 in order to comply with the front passenger seat newly applied height adjustment option. Many companies tend to take interest in reducing risks from the uncertainty in technologies. However, new technologies always have uncertainty in performing intended functions at various given conditions despite the fact that engineers do their best to develop technologies to meet all the requirements. FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is a failure analysis method for the complex system to identify the potential failure modes and their effects. In general, the overall failure data of system could be managed from design stage by FMEA, and also the countermeasures to prevent many predicted failures could be established by identification of failure modes and failure effects by FMEA.

Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) systems have proven to be highly effective increasing the belt wearing rates of a vehicle’s seat occupants. The availability of such SBR systems for vehicle is common in some markets and fast-growing, also thanks to NCAP incentives. In this paper, we provide the overview and performance test results of MOBIS thin film switch type 8-cell SBR sensor which has been currently developed in mass-production.
Study on the Contact Sensor used for the Detection of Pedestrian Impact

Pedestrians are a high-risk group in vehicle impacts, especially in urban area. All around the world, more than 400,000 pedestrians are killed each year by traffic accidents. Among them, 7% of traffic accident victims are pedestrians, and 24% of traffic accident victims are pedestrians. Especially, according to the statistical analysis data of KoRoad in 2017, Korea has the highest occupation rate of 38.8% in the OECD countries, more than twice the national average. 공진형 교반기는 공진 현상을 이용하여 교반 작업을 수행하는 장치로 정밀 화학 분야에서 필요하다. 그러나 공진에 의한 심한 진동이 구동부의 수명을 단축시키고 상품 가치를 떨어뜨린다. 본 연구에서는 교반부에 요구되는 진동을 발생시키면서 구동부의 진동을 낮추고 외부로의 진동 전달을 차단하는 교반기 설계 방법을 제시한다. 현장의 요구 조건에 따라 교반부는 60Hz에서 100g의 가속도를 제공하고, 모터 구동부의 진동 크기는 교반부 진동의 1/5로 설계한다. 이러한 진동 조건을 구현하는 최소 구동력 조건을 구한다. 또 몸체로의 전달력을 최소화 시키도록 설계한다. 최종적으로 유한요소 해석으로 진동모드와 주파수 응답을 구하여 이론 해석 결과의 타당성을 검증한다. A resonance-type mixer is a mixing device that exploits resonance, and is required in the field of fine chemicals. However, the severe vibrations associated with the resonance shorten the service life and reduce the product value. In this study, a design method is proposed for a resonance-type mixer to reduce the vibration of the driving part and to insulate the transmission of the vibration to the outside, while satisfying the vibration level necessary for mixing. According to the conditions required by the market, the mixing part generates the acceleration amplitude of 100 g at 60 Hz, and the vibration of the motor driving part is designed at 0.2 times of the mixing part. The minimum driving force condition that implements this vibration condition is obtained. It is also designed to minimize the force transmitted to the body. Finally, the validity of the theoretical analysis result is evaluated by examining the mode shape and frequency response of the mixer model through finite element analysis.
Effect of Probiotic-Fortified Infant Formula on Infant Gut Health and Microbiota Modulation

Compared to infant formula, breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants; it not only improves the neonatal intestinal function, but also regulates the immune system and gut microbiota composition. However, probiotic-fortified infant formula may further enhance the infant gut environment by overcoming the limitations of traditional infant formula. We investigated the probiotic formula administration for one month by comparing 118 Korean infants into the following three groups: infants in each group fed with breast milk (50), probiotic formula (35), or placebo formula-fed group (33). Probiotic formula improved stool consistency and defecation frequency compared to placebo formula-fed group. The probiotic formula helped maintaining the level of secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), which had remarkably decreased over time in placebo formula-fed infants (compared to weeks 0 and 4). Moreover, probiotic formula decreased the acidity of stool and considerably increased the butyrate concentration. Furthermore, the fecal microbiota of each group was evaluated at weeks 0 and 4. The microbial composition was distinct between each groups, and the abundance of healthpromoting bacteria increased in the probiotic formula compared to the placebo formulafed group. In summary, supplementation of probiotic infant formula can help optimize the infant gut environment, microbial composition, and metabolic activity of the microbiota, mimicking those of breast milk.
