        The monthly mean sea levels at 48 stations located at the East and Yellow Seas coasts of Korea, Russia and Japan are processed to investigate seasonal sea level variations. The strong seasonal variations are found to be at the west coast of Korea (42.1 cm in Kunsan), in the region of the Korea strait and near the southern part of Primorye (30-33 cm); the weak ones near the southwestern coast of the Sakhalin Island (10-12 cm). Practically for the whole study area except the southwest Sakhalin, the general picture of the seasonal sea level changes is alike: the mean sea level rises in summer-autumn and falls in winter-spring. The spectral analysis of the records also shows that the seasonal oscillations strongly dominate in the sea level variations, more than 80% or total energy in the southern part of the investigated region and 50-70% in the northern part relate to these oscillations. The annal peak significantly prevails in spectra of the monthly sea levels for the majority of stations, the semiannual peak is also well manifested, but the seasonal peaks of higher order (corresponding to the periods of four and three months) reveal only at some records. The maximal amplitudes of annual component by a least square method are found at the Yellow Sea coast of Korea (20-21 cm) and also near the Japanese coast of the korea Strait (19-19 cm). The semiannual component has the maximal amplitudes (3-4 cm) near the south and southwestern coasts of the Sakhalin Island. The annual range of the sea levels is much weaker here than in the other regions, the relative investment of the seasonal oscillations in total energetic budget is only 35-40%, annual ($A_1$) and semiannual ($A_2$) components have nearly the same amplitude (seasonal factor $F=A_1/A_2=0.9-1.2$). On the basis of the present examination on sea level changes together with the results of Tomizawa et. al.(1984) the whole investigated area may be divided into 10 subregions, 2 of them are related to the Yellow Sea and Western part of the Korea Strait (Y1, Y2), the other ones (E1-E8) to the East Sea.

        Asymmetric dimer of N-substituted 1,2-benzothiazines were obtained from oxidative dimerization in the presence of silver(I) oxide. Optimal reaction was sucessfully proceeded through stirring of distilled acetone using 100mol% of silver(I) oxide at room temperature for 40 h. Totomerization of 4-hydroxy moiety took place during the first course of dimerization, which followed 3-hydroxy of 1,2-benzothiazine through oxidative radical reaction between carbon-hydrogen bond with silver(I) oxide. Nucleophillic attack of another oxygen nucleophile molecules gave to dimer 6a-g with dehydration A mechanism for the dimerization have been proposed.

      • 近來 우리나라 成人病 死亡의 統計學的 考察

        Improvement of the general standard of living induced the reduction of the death rates and prolonged expectation of life. On the other hand recently the patterns of diseases have changed and the tendency of increasing chronic illnesses is noted. We performed statistical analysis of the various annual reporting data from government and discussed the causes of death with respect to several aspects. The results of the study are as follows : 1. According to the comparative analysis of the statistical data concerning the death rates by the major causes of death in 44 countries, as for liver cancer, Korea showed the highest death rate as 23.9 per 100,000 persons, and as for stomach cancer and chronic liver diseases Korea showed the second and fourth highest death rate as 30.6 and 28.6 respectively. In contrast, lung cancer, colon cancer, and ischemic heart disease were placed very low as 35th, 39th and 44th in ranks in Korea. 2. The death rate of diabetes mellitus increased to 25.5 in 1992 from 10.1 in 1981, but infectious diseases decreased from 49.7 to 26.1. Cancer and circulatory diseases showed the tendency to increase. 3. Among the 208,322 death cases in 1992, male cases were 122,047 and female cases were 86, 275. As for the causes of death by sex, in case of male neoplasm showed the highest death rate as 136.9, and accident(100.3), cerebrovascular diseases(75.4), chronic liver diseases(45.7) and heart diseases(42.8) followed it in that order. In case of female, cerebrovascular diseases showed the highest death rate as 86.7, and neoplasm(83.6), heart disease(44.7), accidents(35.9) and hypertensive diseases(29.2) followed it in that order respectively. 4. As for the first leading cause of death by age group, it is cancer which showed the highest death rate in the age group of 40 to 70, accident in the age group under 40, and cerebrovascular illness in the age group over 70.

      • Polarimeter를 이용한 Unnatural Amino Acid 유도체의 선광도 측정

        For the development of new COX-2 inhibitor, novel unnatural amino acids, key intermediates were synthesized through induction an arylsulfonyl group to 1-position, an aralkyl group to 4-position of 4-hydroxy L-proline. The 4-aralkyloxy-1-(4-tosyl)-L-prolines 5a-d were synthesized through N-tosylation, esterification, O-alkyl-(or aryl)ation, base-hydrolysis (deprotection of carboxylic acid) from 4-hydroxy-L-proline. The optical activity of unnatural amino acids were studied how the specific rotation was related with their structure. The optical rotation of unnatural amino acids were determined by polarimeter.

      • COX-2 Inhibitors를 위한 새로운 1,2-치환된 피롤리딘 유도체의 합성

        For the development of new COX-2 inhibitor, novel compounds were synthesized through induction an arylsulfony group to 1-position, an arylcarboxamidyl group to 2-position and an aralkyl group to 4-position of L-proline. The 4-aralkyloxy-1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-L-prolines 5a-d were synthesized through N-tosylation, esterification, O-alkyl-(or aryl)ation, base-hydrolysis (deprotection of carboxylic acid) from 4-hydroxy-L-proline. Final 4-aralkyloxy-1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-2-phenylcarboxamidyl-L-prolines 6a-d were synthesized through the condensation of aniline with 5a-d using DCC.

        2-Bromo monosubstituent of 3,4-methylenedioxybenzoic acids was obtained from selective bromination in the presence of bromine in glacial acetic acid. Reaction was sucessfully proceeded through stirring of glacial acetic acid after dropwise over 4 h 100mol% of bromine and acetic acid at room temperature for 18 h. 2-Position rather than 6-position of aromatic nucleus was substituted first during bromination, and thereafter 2,6-disubstituted analogue followed even though steric hindrance.

      • Cyclooxygenase-2 저해제로서의 benzothiazine 유도체 합성과 항염작용 평가

        The antiinflammatory mechanism of NSAIDs is attributed to the reduction of prostaglandin synthesis by the direct inhibition of cyclooxygenase. Inhibition of prostaglandin production in organs such as stomach and kidney can result in gastric lesions, nephrotoxicity and increased bleeding. In this study, newly designed COX-2 inhibitors, synthesized 1,2-benzothiazine derivatives, were screened in vitro for selectivity of COX-1 and COX-2 inhibition properties. Lead compounds in the structure-activity relationship were studied to synthesize new highly selective COX-2 inhibitors. To determine inhibitory effect of COX-2, synthesized 1,2-benzothiazine derivatives were screened with accumulation of prostaglandin by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in aspirin-treated macrophages and murine macropharge cell. Some of synthesized 1,2-benzothiazine derivatives were shown to be effective as selective COX-2 inhibitory activity. Others exhibited a preferential inhibition of COX-2, although some COX-1 inhibitory activity was still present. As a conclusion, simple monomer derivatives were more active than dimer derivatives. Substitution of halogen (Br, Cl) on the benzothiazine nucleus slightly enhanced inhibition activity.

        Ethyl 2-methyl-3-pyrazinyl-3-oxopropionate is a key intermediate for the development of new drugs and can be synthesized through Claisen condensation from methyl pyrazine carboxylate and ethyl propionate. Even though in β-diketones esters in general the amount of enol form present at equilibrium is far higher than keto form, this key compound showes that the keto concentration is high. It can be explained because of the electron-releasing effect of α-methyl group.

      • 1,5-Diphenylhydantoins을 위한 새로운 Methyl α-Anilinophenylacetate 유도체의 합성

        For the development of new COX-2 inhibitor, novel key intermediates (2∼4) synthesized through esterification, bromination and α-substitution from phenylacetic acid. The methyl phenylacetate 2 was synthesized through reflux phenylacetic acid with sulfuric and methanol. The methyl α-bromophenylacetate 3 was produced through radical bromination using N-bromosuccinimide from 2. The optical amination to introduce anilino group was contolled under 80℃ in DME. The bromo intermediate was converted to the final methyl α-anilinophenylacetate 4 through reaction with aniline.
