        자아 미술표현의 이해와 미술재료에 대한 교육적 함의: 듀이의 하나의 경험에 기초하여

        It has been pointed out in art education that there are still problems associated not only with understanding of learners` artistic self-expression, but with art materials shown in art as subject. The conversion of understanding of art materials is educationally important in order to know about living working with the changes in modern art. The purpose of this study is to draw the understanding of artistic self-expression and educational implication concerning art materials, on the basis of Dewey`s concept of an experience. To achieve the purpose, this study was carried out by examining Dewey`s concept of an experience to understand learners` artistic self-expression, and by finding out similarities between Dewey`s concept of an experience and the characteristics of process shown in learners` artistic self-expression. Based on the findings, the following implication was drawn by exploring learners` abilities to control art materials and the meaning of art materials having effects on artistic self-expression. Art materials used for learners were considered to function as the media (communication, artistic expression and tools of intention & meaning), and to be sensuously related to expressers as learners. In addition, these art materials can be converted to their own meaning only if they are controlled by learners, and they can be understood through their experience in controlling the art materials. It was emphasized, therefore, that the art materials must appear as an expressive characteristic of learners in the process of their expression, rather than the use of the art materials as the intention of others.
