The emergence of sensor networks as one of the dominant technology trends in the coming decades. These networks are likely to be composed of hundreds, and potentially thousands of tiny sensor nodes, functioning autonomously, and in many cases, without access to renewable energy resources. Cost constraints and the need for ubiquitous, invisible deployments will result in small sized, resource-constrained sensor nodes. Ubiquitous sensor network(USN) module with 4 kinds of air quality monitoring sensors was developed for indoor environment monitoring system in subway stations. The module has various enlargement for various kinds of sensors such as temperature sensor, humidity sensor, CO₂ sensor, particulate sensor. To reduce the measurement error of sensors, we calibrated each sensor using standard gases and particles. The development wireless node is very convenient to be installed in the subway stations. USN is expected to be used for the cheap and easy way for indoor air quality monitoring.

Because the indoor spaces of the passenger cabin is generally airtight to secure the safety of passengers and enhance the efficiency of the cabin air conditioning performances, the contamination pattern of them are largely similar to that of general indoor spaces. Therefore, continuous supply of outdoor air is required to keep the amenity of indoor space. Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is composed of air cleaning filter, heater and air conditioned, blower and ducts. To achieve the clean indoor environment, an integrated control of each HVAC equipment are required. In this study, we developed the air cleaning system to enhance the amenity of the railroad passenger cabin.

Ventilation system on passenger rooms should be designed for the health and comfort of the passengers. One of the main aim is to create an acceptable thermal environment without draught problems. The draught sensation increases when the air temperature decreases and the air velocity increases. Airflow in passenger rooms is turbulent. Lateral temperature and humidity gradients in the electric rolling stock have been studied. And, the difference in the mean temperatures measured at 0.7, 0.9, 1.2, 1.7 m above the floor. It has been found that temperature with large fluctuations caused more draught complains.

In this study, it was suggested how to monitor the air quality with use of intelligent wireless sensor network in the subway station. When Zigbee-based ubiquitous sensor network was used, smaller budget was required in configuring the system compared to existing air-quality monitoring method and this system may easily be configured due to easy installation of communication cables. The study will be continued to supplement the network systems currently installed in subway stations and the completion of development of this system is expected to make a large contribution in improvement of indoor air quality.
Hybrid Pilot System을 이용한 철도 오염토양 복원

In this study, we tested hybrid pilot system combined with soil vapor extraction and bioventing methods on the contaminated railroad soil. So, we found out the remediability and operating conditions. Air permeability(k) and gas phase(O2/CO2/VOCS) level trend are very important to determine the remediation rate of the contaminated sites. Throughout hybrid pilot test on different conditions, the range of air permeability(k) was 1985~1194 darcy. The tests results in hybrid system was appropriate on this test sites, and the suitable injection air flow rate was 3.5㎥/hr. So, we suggested a basic data for the remediation and management of contaminated railroad soil.
