The turbulent flow behavior of air supply and exhaustion in the Shin-gum-ho subway station is analyzed for ordinary and emergency state. The depth of Shin-gum-ho station is 43.6m which consists of the island-type platform(8th floor in underground) and a two-story lobby (first & second floor in underground). An emergency stairway connects between the platform and the lobby. Ventilation operation mode for ordinary state is set up as a combination of air supply and exhaustion in the lobby and platform, while for emergency state it is set up as a full air supply in the lobby and a full exhaustion in the platform. The entire station is covered for simulation. The ventilation diffusers are modeled as 95 square shapes of 0.6m?0.6m in the lobby and as 222 square shapes of 0.6m×0.6m and 4 rectangular shapes of 1.2m×0.8m in the platform. The total of 7.5million grids are generated and whole domain is divided to 22 blocks for MPI efficiency of calculation. Large eddy simulation(LES) is applied to solve the momentum equation and Smagorinsky model(C<SUB>s</SUB>=0.2) is used as SGS subgrid scale) model. The time-averaged velocity fields are compared to experimental data and show a good agreement with it.

Modern people stay at indoor places about 90% of a day. Radon-222 is a gas produced by the radioactive decay of the element radium. And, radon is one of the major indoor air pollutants. Radon moves into the underground space through various routes and is considered to cause lung cancer by hurting the lung tissues. In this study, we measured the subway radon level at 9 stations of 3 lines. According to test results, we can figure out the concentration of radon by lines, times, and measuring points. So, it was found that ventilation conditions are the most important factors in the subway air quality. Finally, we suggested effective and economic management methods of air pollution in the subway.

As the air pollution caused by diesel vehicles goes worse, so non-road vehicles exhaust gas standards are more strict in an foreign countries. There is growing evidence that diesel vehicles could play the important role in determining health effects. Most of the particle number emitted by diesel engines is in the nanopaticle range, D<SUB>p</SUB> < 50㎚, while most of the mass is in the accumulation mode, 50㎚ < D<SUB>p</SUB> < 1000㎚ range. The aim of this work was to investigate pollutants in the exhaust of railroad diesel rolling stock under load tests.
Hybrid Pilot System을 이용한 철도 오염토양 복원

In this study, we tested hybrid pilot system combined with soil vapor extraction and bioventing methods on the contaminated railroad soil. So, we found out the remediability and operating conditions. Air permeability(k) and gas phase(O2/CO2/VOCS) level trend are very important to determine the remediation rate of the contaminated sites. Throughout hybrid pilot test on different conditions, the range of air permeability(k) was 1985~1194 darcy. The tests results in hybrid system was appropriate on this test sites, and the suitable injection air flow rate was 3.5㎥/hr. So, we suggested a basic data for the remediation and management of contaminated railroad soil.
무선 센서네트워크를 이용한 역사에서의 대기오염 모니터링

It was intended in this study to seek for the measures to utilize the USN technique, which has high usability due to low price and low power consumption, in air quality monitoring. As a method, the sensors of temperature, humidity, particulate matters (PM10), and carbon dioxide (CO₂) were installed in the self-manufactured sensor nodes; the nodes were installed in the waiting rooms and platforms of a subway station and the measurements were collected at real time with use of a computer which micro gateway was built in. Collected data was to be processed by the statistics program installed in the computer; the collected data is to be used in managing the air quality of stations after transmission to the ventilation system of ventilation chambers.

The aim of this study is to investigate the emission characteristics of volatile organic compounds from the interior materials of railroad rolling stock. Samples for VOCs were collected using a environmental chamber and the samples were analyzed for 35 individual compounds. 6 different types of materials, seat cover and floor material of Mugunghwaho, Saemaeulho and electric rolling stock were analysed. The results were expressed as concentrations over 12, 18, 24, 36 and 48 hours. VOCs concentrations were measured to be higher in the 12 hours than in the 48 hours. Floor material of Mugunghwaho showed the highest concentration of all studied materials. Followed by floor materials of Saemaeulho and electric rolling stock.
철도 디젤차량에서 배출되는 가스상 오염물질의 배출량 추정

Of those off-road diesel engines, the railroad diesel rolling stocks (RDRS) for passenger and freight transportation become a growing issue since they are emitting enormous amounts of various air pollutants. Furthermore, up to the present time, emissions from these sources are not well controlled. One of main purposes in this study is to develop emission factors for the RDRS and to estimate a total amount of major air pollutants from the RDRS in Korea. Prior to develop a Korean mode emission factor, the emission factor from the USEPA was simply applied for comparative studies. As a conclusion, based on the emissions calculated from both the USEPA mode and the KoRail mode, the RDRS is considered as one of significant mobile sources of major air pollutants including NOx and CO, and thus management plans and control strategies for the RDRS must be established to improve air quality near future in Korea.

In this paper, we calculate the amount of emission rates from Korean railroad lines and train kinds. Air pollutants emissions are calculated using by US EPA baseline in-use emission rates which is divided line-haul and switch mode. The calculated HC emissions on the railroad diesel vehicles are 1,209.1 t from Korean railroad lines.
