This study aims to analyze representative images of Gongju perceived by foreign residents, thereby activating its international images. For such purpose, a qualitative study was conducted using NVivo 10. According to the analysis result, images perceived by foreign residents about Gongju were figures, history/culture, production, education, signs/symbols, and natural environment. Figures were world-renowned athletes and artists, and as history/culture, historical sites and ceramic art village were included as images perceived by them. They also perceived foods related to indigenous products, universities located in the region, and high schools renowned for sports. With regard to signs/symbols, they perceived characters, slogans, and regional brands. Lastly, as for natural environment, what they perceived was Mt. Gyeryong and Geumgang they were able to gain easy access to while they lived there. Having foreigners understand a region is a very important part of regional promotion. Finding representative images of Gongju and understanding images foreigners perceive is a basic process for Gongju to grow as an international city. This study is judged able to contribute to Gongju`s making a leap forward as an international city.
