Contrary to reinforced concrete frames, beams or girders in steel frames are neither hinged nor fixed at their ends. Instead, they are usually restrained by the columns to which they are attached. Many studies have been . performed to include the effect of connection rigidity. Here in this paper, Kim's modified slope-deflection equation based on the Kinney's fixity factor and the power model proposed by Richard and Abbot were utilized to analyze semi-rigid frame. After Kinney's definition, fixity factor ranges from 0.0 to 1.0. This definition makes moment-rotation relation clearer. Meanwhile the accuracy of the pourer model for nonlinear behavior of semi-rigid frame is rather less clear. But it is simple, because it uses only three parameters. Stress analysis results by the finite element method, in which the stiffness matrix was modified to reflect Kim's modified slope-deflection method, coincided well with those of some references. Finally, a simplified stress analysis for semi-rigid steel frame was suggested through an example.
