In order to incorporate silver ions into the alginate, silver-alginate was prepared with aqueous solutions of silver nitrate. In the study, the silver-alginate was prepared by blending with poly vinylpyrrolidone solutions and the electrospinning was performed by using this blend solution. Antibacterial properties of silver-alginate/PVP solutions were estimated for Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus by the colony counting test. Electrospinning conditions of silver-alginate/PVP solution were the tip-to-collector distance of 22 cm, the flow rate of the solution at 0.01 Ml/min, and the voltage at 26 Kv. The form and size of silver-alginate/PVP nanofibers were estimated by SEM and lmage J. The average diameter of the electrospun SA5P15 fibers was 124 nm and showed a narrow diameter distribution. The reduction of bacteria for SA5P15 exhibited 99.9% after 24 h.

Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate personal and area exposure of airborne nicotine during harvest and weaving tasks in tobacco farms. Methods: Nicotine was measured with NIOSH method 2551 and Passive sampler which was validated in previous papers for area and personal sampling. Results: The average (geometric mean) concentrations of nicotine with two different tasks in personal sample were 6.5ug/ m3 (harvest), 32.6 ug/m3 (weaving) and in area sample were 0.8 ug/m3 (harvest), 57.2 ug/m3 (weaving). There was significant difference in area sample between harvest and weaving task (p=0.000). Also, there was significant difference with personal sample (p=0.000). Conclusions: It was found that weaving task should be considered to be the first priority for reducing nicotine exposure.

Objectives: This study was conducted in order to evaluate personal and area exposure to airborne total dust and endotoxin during harvest and planting tasks at cucumber, yellow melon and potato farms Materials and Methods: Total dust was measured with NIOSH method 0500. Endotoxin were measured using a 37 mm glass fiber filter which was connected to an air pump calibrated to 2 LPM, and then analyzed with a Turbidmetric kinetic method. Results: The average(arithmetic mean) concentrations of total dust in the personal samples were 0.10- 3.81 ㎎/㎥for cucumbers, 0.21-1.19 ㎎/㎥for yellow melon, and 0.08- 2.72 ㎎/㎥for potato. There was a significant difference in the harvest task among the three farm types(p=0.019 of personal sample, p=0.048 of area sample), in which the air concentration for potatoes was higher than with cucumbers and yellow melons. Conclusions: It was found that potatoes(planting and harvest) should be considered the first priority for studying and reducing total dust exposure.

Objective: This study aimed to test the accuracy of self-reported information used in indirect estimation of pesticide exposure. Methods: To do so, self-reported values on the duration of pesticide application per day were compared with observed values. The number of days of pesticide application per year as recorded in self-administered logs was compared with recalled values. Results: It was found that participants underestimated the duration and frequency of actual pesticide use. High correlations were found between self-reported values and observed values, as well as between recalled values and recorded values. Conclusions: The reason might be that farmers unconsciously under-recall the application of pesticide since many customers prefer eco-friendly agricultural products. Farmers thought the task of applying pesticides to be essential, and this may explain why the participants in this study tended to accurately recall their pesticide-related work.

As the number of people who enjoy skiing are increasing, it has become more important to work out a countermeasure for prevention of injuries. To prevent accidents, finding out the causes and analyzing them is more meaningful than post-accidental treatment. This study is based on records of 494 injured people at H ski resorts. From December, 2000 to March, 2001 this research and analysis was undertaken in detail by classifying the situation and causes at the accidents, into personal, material and environmental factors. The results from which following conclusion were made. First of all, after analyzing the situation of the injured people, the facts that most of the accidents occurred on weekends and holidays, when most students and salarymen went skiing and that the injures were usually in the form of a slight contusion were found out. The major cause was that people ignored the safety rules and descended immoderately. But skiers that used a certain ski resort regularly showed lower occurrence of injuries. For these reasons in order to reduce the rate of accidents happening skiers should be tested by a ski instructor and then should be taught at a right level. Ski-related organizations should inform skiers with facts that are commonly misunderstood through seminars and training courses. The lack of facilities for beginners should be improved and resorts for group training courses should be built separately so that beginners can prevent ahead of time, form getting hurt in a disorderly situation .
