Submerged Plasma lrritation (SPI) process ha been recently introduced a an advanced oxidation process in water and wastewater treatment. If high-voltage discharge occur in submerged water environment, it creates shock wave, UV, H2O2 ozone and other oxidative radicals. Those material produced by SPI may destroy various type of microorganisms and degrade organic matters rapidly. In this study. several serious experiments were conducted to investigate the optimal condition of laboratory-scale SPI unit for the treatment of RO retentate wastewater. Effects of discharge time, frequency waveform in SPI at various condition were studied. Optimal operational conditions of discharge time, frequency and waveform were found to be 20 minutes, 10Hz and square wave respectively. Removal efficiency of treated wastewater was in the range of 15 to 20% within 20 minute of operation. SPI has shown a great potential as a pretreatment process in membrane related water and wastewater treatment processes.
