중년남성의 성역할 갈등과 중년기 정서적 위기감의 관계에서 친밀감 두려움의 매개효과

본 연구는 중년남성의 성역할 갈등과 중년기의 정서적 위기감의 관계에서 친밀감 두려움이 매개효과를 나타내는가를 검증하고 더불어 남성이 나타내는 여성성 수준에 따라 이 관계가 달라지는지를 알아보고자 집단 간 비교연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해서 서울지역에 거주하는 중년남성(만40세-60세)을 대상으로 설문을 실시한 후, 수집된 304개의 데이터를 SPSS와 AMOS을 사용하여 상관분석, 구조방정식 모형분석과 다집단 분석을 실시하였다. 구조방정식 모형검증결과, 중년남성의 성역할 갈등이 높을수록 중년기에 정서적 위기감을 많이 경험하게 되는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 중년남성이 가지고 있는 친밀감 두려움은 이 관계에서 완전 매개효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 남성의 여성성의 수준에 의한 집단 간 비교결과에서는 성역할 갈등, 친밀감 두려움 그리고 중년기 정서적 위기감의 관계에서 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 이 연구결과는 남성의 성역할 갈등이 중년기 정서적 위기감에 직접적인 영향을 주기보다는 친밀감 두려움을 매개로 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것을 보여주었다. 그리고 여성성 수준에 의한 두 집단 비교 결과에서는 남성안의 여성성의 강화만으로 성역할 갈등, 친밀감 두려움이 중년기 정서적 위기감에 이르는 관계에 변화를 주기에는 충분하지 않다는 것을 보여주었다. 이 결과로 미루어보면, 남성의 중년기의 심리적인 건강 수준을 높이기 위해서는 남성의 경험하는 성역할 갈등의 수준을 낮추고 친밀감 두려움을 감소시키는 것이 여성성의 강화보다 더 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 남성들의 중년기 정서적 위기감의 예방 및 극복을 위해서 관계적인 측면에 초점을 둔 성역할 유연성과 친밀감 두려움 극복을 위한 심리 상담 개입에의 시사점이 논의되었다. This study examined the relationship between gender role conflict and emotional mid-life crisis in middle-aged Korean men. I hypothesized that the fear of intimacy mediated this relation. In addition, I supposed that the feminine trait in men could moderate the relation of gender role conflict, fear of intimacy and emotional mid-life crisis. These assumptions were tested on 304 samples from middle-aged Korean men(age : 40-60). The results of the structural equation modeling of the study 1 showed that, as expected, male gender role conflict was positively related to emotional mid-life crisis. The fear of intimacy fully mediated the relationship between gender role conflict and emotional mid-life crisis when controlling of income level. Gender role conflict had no direct effect on emotional mid-life crisis. In study 2, the test result of the multi group analysis indicated that any significant difference in the relation of gender role conflict, fear of intimacy and emotional mid-life crisis was not found. Overall, the present results confirmed that gender role conflict affected the emotional mid-life crisis of middle-aged men. The fully mediated by the fear of intimacy model fit the data well when holding constant of income level. Also, this model explained that this relationship did not differ in two groups divided by the feminine scores. Thus, these results suggest that decreasing the level of gender role conflict and alleviating the fear of intimacy are more important than enhancing the femininity in men for the psychological health of the mid-life. Implications of the results for men counseling practice are discussed.
