Thermo-chromic Liquid Crystal(TLC) particles were used as temperature sensor for thermal fluid flow. 1K $\times$ 1K CCD color camera and Xenon Lamp(500w) were used for the visualization of a Hele-Shaw cell The characteristic between the reflected colors from the TLC and their corresponding temperature shows strong non-linearity A neural network known as having strong mapping capability for non-linearity is adopted to quantify the temperature field using the image of the flow. Improvements of color-to-temperature mapping was attained by using the local color luminance (Y) and hue (H) information as the inputs for the constructed neural network.

Experimental studies on the characteristics of ice slurry flows in a circular pipe is rare due to the deficiency of conventional measurement techniques. In this report the flow characteristics are quantitatively investigated by the use of PIV technique concerning the Ice Packing Factor(IPF) and the power changes of pump motor It was experimentally verified that the power loss does not increase any more at a certain IPF value.

The 14th International Symposium on Flow Visualization (ISFV14) was held at Daegu (Korea), June 21-24, 2010. The number of participants was 304 from 17 countries. The number of papers presentated was 243 from 19 countries. Two special lectures and four invited lectures, 48 paper sessions, and one poster session were opened in five and in a lobby for four days. Special events such as awarding “the Asanuma Award” and “the Leonardo Da Vinci Award” to the prominent contributors were also held. Photo and Movie Awards were given to three scientists for the excellences in their photos and movies. Among 48 sessions 5 sessions were on Biological Flows and on Micro/Nano Fluidics, which were the largest session number. 4 sessions were held on Compressible and Sonic Flows, and on PIV/PTV. 3 sessions were held on Swirl Flows, Image Processing, and on Industrial Applications. Other sessions on LIF, Wake and Vortex Flows, Physiological Flows, Environment Flows, Measurements Techniques, and on Reacting Flows.
하이브리드 PTV-PIV알고리듬에 의한 고정밀 와도 추정

A PTV algorithm was constructed using a linear transformation, in which the merits of the conventional PIV and PTV were adopted. In PIV calculations, the obtained velocity vectors are affected by the filtering effects by its calculation principle. PTV techniques are widely used for their excellences of measuring small scaled flows, such as nano and bio flows. However, PTVs produce vector errors due to interpolation process. To overcome these problems, a hybrid PTV algorithm was constructed by combining PTVs' and PIVs' benefits using a linear transformation. The Taylor-Green vortex flows were generated for the tests of vorticity calculations. The conventional gray-level cross-correlation PIV technique and 2-Frame PTV technique were tested for the same flows for comparisons with those obtained by the constructed hybrid algorithm. The excellence of the constructed hybrid algorithm was validated through an actual experiment on the cylinder wake.

The 12th International Symposium on Flow Visualization (ISFV12) was held at Gottingen (Germany), September 10-14, 2006. The number of participants was 360 from 31 countries. From Korea more than 10 delegates participanted at this symposium, which is the largest group since the foundation of Korean Society of Visualization (KSV). The total number of papers presented was 294. 75 paper sessions and one poster session were opened in seven rooms and in a lobby for three days. Seven invited lectures and five special sessions were held. Special events such as awarding “the Asanuma Award” and “the Leonardo Da Vinci Award” to the prominent contributors were also held. Further, three young scientists were awarded for their excellences in scientific work and oral presentations at the symposium. Among 75 sessions 6 sessions were upon Micro Flows, which is the largest number. Many industrial applications in Macro Flows were focused by many participants rather than the cases of simple applications of Micro Flows.
스테레오 PTV와 스테레오 PIV에 의한 선박프로펠러 후류측정

Stereoscopic PTV and Stereoscopic-PIV measurements have been carried out for the studies of the wake of a ship's propeller. Stereoscopic photogrammetry based on a 3D-PTV principle was introduced using two high-definition cameras(1k × 1k, 30㎐). The arrangement of the two cameras was based on angular position. The pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors were based on Genetic Algorithm based 3D-PTV technique. The results obtained by both measurement systems have been compared at the advance ratio J=0.88(290 rpm, d=54 ㎜). Turbulent properties have also been compared each other at the same condition.
