Experimental studies on the characteristics of ice slurry flows in a circular pipe is rare due to the deficiency of conventional measurement techniques. In this report the flow characteristics are quantitatively investigated by the use of PIV technique concerning the Ice Packing Factor(IPF) and the power changes of pump motor It was experimentally verified that the power loss does not increase any more at a certain IPF value.

Thermo-chromic Liquid Crystal(TLC) particles were used as temperature sensor for thermal fluid flow. 1K $\times$ 1K CCD color camera and Xenon Lamp(500w) were used for the visualization of a Hele-Shaw cell The characteristic between the reflected colors from the TLC and their corresponding temperature shows strong non-linearity A neural network known as having strong mapping capability for non-linearity is adopted to quantify the temperature field using the image of the flow. Improvements of color-to-temperature mapping was attained by using the local color luminance (Y) and hue (H) information as the inputs for the constructed neural network.

Analyses on the Hrdroelastic Flow-Structure Interactions on pulsed impinged jet is measured with the FSIMS(Flow-Structure Interaction Measurement System. The measurement system consists of three cameras(1k x 1k), light sources(Ar-ion) and a host computer. The nozzle diameter is D=15㎜ and two major experiments have been carried out for the cases of the distance between the nozzle tip to the elastic wall is 6.0. The pulsed jets were controlled by a solenoid valve and were impinged onto an elastic plate (material: silicon, diameter: 350㎜, thickness: 0.5㎜, hardness: 15). The Reynolds numbers were 20,000 and 24,000 when the jets were impinged with the volume velocities. Experimental results showed that the elastic plate moved slightly to the opposite direction of the jet direction at the time of valve opening. It has been shown that the vortices travelling over the surface of the wall made the elastic wall distorted locally due to a vector forces between rotating forces of the vortex and a newly-incoming flow.

A non-contact 6D motion tracking system is proposed. The system consists of two color cameras, a color image grabber and a host computer. Motions of a floating vessel was measured by the constructed system. The instantaneous forces of the floating vessel are analyzed. The floating vessel was put on the water in a small water container in free conditions. The measured forces are reconstructed by the measurement results. The system can be used to non-contact measurements for 60 dynamic analysis of floating vessels.

A simultaneous measurement system that can analyze the flow-structure interaction has been developed. This system consists of four CCD cameras, two for capturing instantaneous flow fields and two for tracking a solid body. The three-dimensional vector fields around a cylinder are measured, while the motion of the cylinder forced by the flow field is measured, simultaneously, with the constructed system. The cylinder is suspended in the working fluid of a water channel, and the surface of the working fluid is forced sinusoidally to make the cylinder bounced. Reynolds number for the mean main stream is about 3500. The interaction between the flow fields and the cylinder motion is examined quantitatively.

Stereoscopic PTV and Stereoscopic-PIV measurements have been carried out for the studies of the wake of a ship's propeller. Stereoscopic photogrammetry based on a 3D-PTV principle was introduced using two high-definition cameras(1k × 1k, 30㎐). The arrangement of the two cameras was based on angular position. The pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors were based on Genetic Algorithm based 3D-PTV technique. The results obtained by both measurement systems have been compared at the advance ratio J=0.88(290 rpm, d=54 ㎜). Turbulent properties have also been compared each other at the same condition.

Single-Camera Stereoscopic Vision three-dimensional measurement system has been developed based upon 3D-PTV algorithm. The system consists of one camera (1k × 1k) and a host computer. To attain three-dimensional measurements a plate having stereo holes has been installed inside of the lens system. Three-dimensional measurements was successfully attained by adopting the conventional 3D-PTV camera calibration methods. As applications of the constructed measurement system, a water droplet mixed with alcohol was constructed on a transparent plastic plate with the contacted fluid diameter 4mm, and the particles motions inside of the droplet have been investigated with the constructed measurement system. The measurement uncertainty of the constructed system was 0.04㎜, 0.04㎜ and 0.09㎜ for X, Y and Z coordinates.
