기독교교육 : 기독교여자대학교의 교육이념이비기독교인 학생의 가치관 형성에 미친 영향-E여대생의 대학생활 경험에 관한 내러티브 의미 탐구

본 연구의 목적은 기독교여자대학교가 표방하는 교육이념이비기독교인 학생의 가치 형성에 어떻게 작용하는가를 파악하고자함이다. 이를 위해 ‘여성지도자 양성’과 ‘기독교정신’이라는 두 축을교육정책의 핵심으로 삼고 있는 E여자대학교와, 그곳에 재학하고있는 무종교인 학생 두 명을 연구대상으로 선정하였다. E여대가전교생의 ‘기독교정신’을 함양하기 위해 공식적 커리큘럼에 포함시킨필수 프로그램은 <기독교와 세계>라는 교과목(3학점)과, <예배>(8학기 이수)이다. 본 연구의 방법은 이 두 여학생과 2개월간 6회에걸쳐 심층면담한 그녀들의 대학생활 경험에 대한 내러티브 내용의탐구 및 분석이다. 어렸을 적 교회에 잠시 다닌 경험이 있는 K학생과 L학생은대학교에서의 학업, 독서, 동아리 활동, 그리고 친구관계를 통해직 · 간접적으로 ‘여성으로서의 자존감’과 ‘기독교적 가치관’의 영향을받고 있었다. K학생은 예술적 형식으로 진행되는 채플, 수평적 관계에서 학문의 자유로운 토론, 그리고 기독교인 친구의 신앙심을 통해나와 다른 사람들에 대한 이해지평을 확장하면서 청소년 시기부터질문해 왔던 진리 추구를 계속하고 있다. 한편, L학생에게는 기독교문화권인 유럽에서 살았던 경험과, 인생의 위기를 두 번 겪으면서얻은 교훈이 그녀의 종교적 가치관 형성의 자원이 되었다. 그녀는가족과의 솔직한 대화, 권위적이지 않은 기독교인 교수와의 인격적관계 속에서 소통하면서 지속적으로 자신의 삶의 가치관을 재정리해가고 있다. 이상 연구참여자들의 내러티브 분석 결과, 우리는 기독교여자대학교의 교육이념은 주로 비공식적이며 잠재적 교육과정을 통해서비기독교인 학생의 신념이나 태도에 암묵적인 영향을 미친다는 점을발견할 수 있었다. 어떤 이념이나 가치는 학교가 의도하지 않았을지라도, 각 학교의 고유한 문화풍토에 내포되어, 학생들이 은연중에 배울수밖에 없는 교육의 자연적 산물이기 때문이다. 그러므로 기독교대학교의 교육적 과제는 비기독교인 학생이 대학생활을 통해 숭고한가치를 발견할 수 있도록 적합한 학습 환경과 분위기를 조성하는일이다. 특히 가치관 형성에 작용하는 중요한 요소 중 하나인 실존적이며 종교적인 질문들이 생겨나도록 도전하고, 그 해답을 학생 스스로발견할 수 있도록 영적인 안내를 해야 한다. The objective of this study is to evaluate how the Christian women`s university`s educational ideology impacts the development of values within the student. For this study, we have selected two non-Christian students studying at “E” Women`s University, where “Cultivation of Women Leaders” and “Christian Spirit” are two pillars of educational ideology. “E” Women`s University has in fact included in its official curriculum courses such as “Christianity and the World” and “Chapel,” in order to cultivate Christian spirit within the student body. We approached this study through holding 6 in-depth conversations with the two students within a time frame of 2 months, and then analyzing their narratives on their respective campus life experiences. Students “K” and “L”, who had briefly attended church in their youths, were being directly and indirectly affected in their self-esteem as women and Christian values, through their academics, readings, group activities and relationships with friends at university. “K,” through participating in the arts of the chapel, horizontal conversation-driven academics and relationship with a Christian friend whose faith has helped her achieve extended understanding of others, is continuously in searching for the truth she has been pursuing since her adolescence. On the other hand, for “L,” her past experience with Christian culture (living in Europe) and the lesson she had learned by going through two crises in her life, has become the sources for the formation of her values. She is continuously reforming her values through frank conversations with her family and her non-authoritative Christian professor. The results of this narrative analysis suggests that Christian women`s university`s educational ideology exists informally within hidden curriculum, impacting the non-Christian student`s thoughts and behavior implicitly. Although the school may not have intended so, certain ideologies and values are imbedded in the school`s unique culture, and absorbed by the students naturally. Therefore, the challenge of Christian universities is to create an appropriate environment for non-Christian students to discover noble values through campus life. In fact, it is important for the school to challenge the students with existential, religious questions that are greatly influential on the formation of one`s values, and let the student find his/her own answers through spiritual guidance.
